Will The Rams Survive?

Only one week ago, Derby County were still looking for their first win of 2025. Now, they have secured two in the space of a week, a feat that is sure to help them in their bid to remain in the Championship for next season.

The Rams hit the foot of the table following their 1-0 loss away at Middlesborough but following their two wins at home, now find themselves in 22nd, only a singular point away from safety.

With a fighting chance, the Rams will look to maintain the levels of performance from the previous two matches and carry that forward.

The only question facing fans of Derby County is whether they can keep this run going.

Derby’s Remaining Fixtures

The Rams have the perfect opportunity to pick up where they left off when they face fellow relegation candidates, Plymouth Argyle on Saturday 15th March.

They then host Preston North End on Wednesday 2nd April followed by a trip to Wales where they face Swansea on Saturday 5th April.

Their next game against a team in the top half of the comes on Wednesday 9th April when they face Burnley.

For the remainder of the season, with the exception of an away game against West Brom, Derby are playing teams around the same area of the table as them such as Portsmouth, Luton, and Hull.

The closing game of the season could prove crucial when the Rams host Stoke City who are also firmly candidates for relegation this season.

Derby’s Away form

One problem that Derby will need to amend should they want to stay up, is their away form.

In eighteen matches this season, the Rams have only picked up 8 points away from Pride Park.

This will be a concern for John Eustace, especially with a potentially season-defining match away at Plymouth next on his side’s calendar

Their most recent point gained from an away match came from a 1-1 stalemate with Norwich City last month.

Prior to this, you would have to go back to early December to find an away game that the Rams got something out of, with this being a goalless draw with Burnley.

Injuries

Injuries have been a very common topic around Derby’s season, and they are not slowing down.

Sondre Langas is the most recent addition following an issue that forced his exit in the 2-1 win over Blackburn.

However Eustace has suggested that this won’t be a long term absence.

One of the biggest blows for the Rams will be the knee injury suffered by Lars-Jorgen Salvesen which will rule him out for the remainder of the season.

The past week has also seen injuries suffered by Ryan Nyambe, Kemar Roofe and Ben Osborn, with this trio all suffering from hamstring issues.

This fills up the physio room more that already has Curtis Nelson (knee), David Ozoh (thigh), Dajuane Brown (hamstring), Nathaniel Mendez-Laing (knee), and Corey Blackett-Taylor (hamstring) on its agenda.

Can Eustace keep the Rams up?

Derby fans have not had much to cheer about as a whole in 2025. However, these two wins against teams that are both in or around the playoff spots are bound to give both the players and the fans some much needed confidence.

Additionally, the Rams have winnable games remaining against teams in similar positions that they find themselves in.

If John Eustace can maintain the level of performance that he has seen from his players in the past week, taking the injuries into account, this season has the potential to be a story of how Derby survived what a week ago, seemed extremely likely relegation.
