Coventry City failed to beat relegation candidates Hull City on Monday night drawing 1-1, missing out on chance to overtake fifth placed Bristol City.
To add to what was a frustrating night for Frank Lampard’s men, the team will now be without midfielder Victor Torp for the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old went off on a stretcher in Coventry’s 1-0 win against Portsmouth, but the players status was not confirmed until after Monday night’s game. Scans have revealed ligament damage and Torp’s ankle now requires surgery.
Lampard confirmed Torp’s absence in his post-match press conference alongside giving updates on other absentees Ephron Mason-Clark and Bobby Thomas.
“Victor Torp has done his ankle ligaments and will miss the rest of the season now,” said Lampard.
“Ephron has a continuation of his toe injury which we don’t really know how long he’s going to be out for at the minute.
“Bobby Thomas has a low-level calf problem and we will just have to analyse it, but I can’t give time frames.”
After last season’s spectacular charge in the FA Cup, Coventry City were set to push on and at least make a top six run this year after narrowly missing out.
Things didn’t begin as planned, with it looking like as though the Sky Blues might find themselves in a relegation battle instead. The club’s hierarchy made a bold move and decided to remove long-term manager Mark Robins.
Lampard was appointed and the results turned, with the club charging up the division.
Coventry City currently sit in the last available play-off spot, three points above the chasing West Bromwich Albion in sixth.
Lampard’s side have a difficult run in, facing the aforementioned West Brom first, before back-to-back trips to relegation threatened sides in the form of Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town, the team that beat them in the play-off final two season ago.
On the final day, the Sky Blues host Middlesbrough, a side that could be in touching distance of that sixth place, fans will be hoping their side’s fate is already settled by then.
