Swansea City are set to appoint Alan Sheehan as their permanent head coach.
The 38-year-old has been in charge since Luke Williams was sacked in February. In 12 games under Sheehan, the Swans have taken 23 points guiding them away from the relegation zone and into 11th place.
In this, his second caretaker spell, Sheehan has made it very clear he would like the job full time. Speaking after his side’s loss to Millwall, he confirmed contract negotiations had begun.
Sheehan said: “I can confirm that we have been talking for a bit, Richard [Montague, Swansea’s director of football] and the ownership.
“It’s moving in a direction and we should have had a conclusion to it all next week.”
It’s not just the Swansea hierarchy who are fond of Sheehan, goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux also believes the former left-back deserves a chance.
“I think he has been brilliant for us and the form we have been on, he deserves an opportunity to lead this club,” the goalkeeper said.
“But that’s not up to me, it’s up to the people upstairs. We have to be professional and keep working hard whatever happens.
“But with this run of form, we’d be in the top two or three if it was over 46 games. If we can continue that, we’ll be in a good place.”
Vigouroux has been a main stay in the Swansea team since joining from Burnley this summer and has been hugely important to sides upturn in form.
“He has had a massive impact,” Vigouroux said.
“He has been brilliant around the place with everyone. He is very open, speaks to everybody.
“He has done a fantastic job and we are all behind him. Everybody is really happy for him that we have gone on this run.”
Sheehan joined the Welsh club as an assistant in 2023 and after two caretaker spells, this would present his first permanent managerial job in football.
Swansea had previously stated that they would take their time in finding William’s successor but appears that it was in front of them the whole time.
The team hosts Oxford United in their final game of the season this weekend and will be hoping top coincide it with the announcement of Sheehan as the man to lead them forward.
