Kwame Poku’s next club? Birmingham, Sheffield United, and Sunderland all chase the Peterborough star after standout League One season

Who Is Kwame Poku?

Kwame Poku is a recognisable name in both League One and League Two having spent spells with Colchester United and Peterborough United. Coming up through the Cray Wanderers academy system, the 23 year old initially started his career at Worthing where the midfielder spent 4 months with the club making 12 appearances and also managing to score 2 goals.

Following this, Poku underwent a successful trial spell with Colchester United and signed a professional contract in September 2019. The Englishman would then go on to make 62 appearances over the course of 2 seasons before signing a 4 year contract with his current club Peterborough United.

During his time with Posh, Poku has impressed making 120 appearances, scoring 28 goals including double figures in his last two seasons leading to interest from other clubs in higher divisions.

Who Are The Clubs Interested In The Midfielder?

There are several sides interested in Poku – including most recently Premier League interest. The first of these clubs and the most reported is Birmingham City. The current League One champions have been reported to have been heavy favourites for the midfielder with the Blues even going as far as putting an offer to the 23 year old and his agent over this past weekend – over a Zoom call.

However, fellow Championship side Sheffield United have also been reported to have an interest in the former Ghanaian international with the Blades looking to strengthen in their bid of automatic promotion in the 2025/26 season. This is not the first time the Bramall Lane outfit have been linked to a Posh player with the Blades signing Harrison Burrows from the League One side following the conclusion of the 2023/24 season last summer – which has proved to be a large success for Burrows.

And most recently, newly promoted side Sunderland have been reported to carry an interest in the midfielder as the Black Cats look to strengthen their squad ahead of their first Premier League campaign since 2017.

These three sides are among a number of clubs reported to be interested in the 23 year old midfielder.

What Does Poku Offer?

Kwame Poku is a player who can contribute to a side’s gameplay in all areas but primarily in an attacking sense. With 12 goals and 8 assists, the midfielder can be seen to be a threat in attack but more specifically in the box where 10 of his 12 goals came from in the 2024/25 League One campaign.

Furthermore, with a passing accuracy of 79.6% and a long ball accuracy of 46.2%, Poku is skilled on the ball, able to create chances for his team which is further reinforced through his 8 assists in Posh’s League campaign.

However, with this being said, Poku isn’t afraid to defend either with the 23 year old making 19 successful tackles and winning 123 duels during his 2024/25 season. The former Ghanaian international also holds an immaculate disciplinary record with the former Colchester man not picking up a single yellow or red card during the 27 matches he played in.
