EXCLUSIVE: League Two Trio Eye Jamie Walker After Bradford City Exit

Jamie Walker, Bradford City’s once-talismanic attacking midfielder, is attracting interest from League Two clubs Notts County, Grimsby Town, and Salford City after being released earlier this summer.

Walker, 31, leaves Valley Parade as a promotion winner, despite playing a little role in Bradford’s triumphant 2024/25 League Two season. Despite his modest on-field contributions last season, his impact and influence on and off the pitch remain firmly entrenched in the thoughts of Bantams fans.

Bradford’s promotion to League One has left the Scottish playmaker without a contract, resulting in a new chapter in his career.

Jamie Walker’s Journey at Valley Parade

Walker joined Bradford City on loan in January 2022, after playing for Hearts in the Scottish Premiership. His influence was nearly instantaneous, bringing a level of creativity and poise to the last third that the Bantams lacked.

Walker made his loan deal permanent in the summer of 2022, following a successful tenure. From there, he soon established himself as a team staple, not only for his technical abilities, but also for the leadership he demonstrated on and off the pitch.

During the Scotsmans first 18 months at Bradford, he recorded nine goals and two assists in 46 League Two appearances.

Walker built a close relationship with teammates and fans in the ensuing seasons. His unwavering work ethic, vision, and knack for creating something out of nothing when games were on the line were all adored by his fans. In close games, he came to represent hope, and for many, he was the team’s creative engine.

But his impact extended beyond statistics. According to people close to the club, Walker’s presence in the dressing room was “inspiring.” He was frequently motivating younger players, giving advice, and creating standards in training and match days. His presence was powerful even when he wasn’t fit.

Injuries Take Their Toll

Walker was gifted and a leader, but his tenure at Bradford came with a string of injuries. He missed a lot of activity over the course of three and a half seasons because to a combination of long-term knocks and muscular problems.

His influence was limited by these ongoing fitness issues during the 2024–2025 season, when Bradford finally finished their League Two tenure and secured promotion under Graham Alexander.

Jamie Walker only started 16 League Two games for The Bantams last season.

Walker maintained his popularity among fans despite his little playing time, and many of them were upset to see him cut when his contract expired.

League Two Clubs Ready To Pounce

The Lower Tiers understands that Notts County, Grimsby Town, and Salford City have all made initial contact with Walker’s representatives. All three clubs are believed to be seriously considering him as a short-term solution to bolster creativity in midfield ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Notts County

The Magpies are keen to recover from their disappointing 2024–2025 campaign. Walker’s technical skills have reportedly long been admired by Notts, who see him as a possible midfield-attack link and a missing component of their possession-heavy style of play. Everything hinges on how their new boss, whoever it is, feels about the idea of signing him.

Grimsby Town

The Mariners, who finished ninth in League Two last season, are laying the groundwork for future success by emphasising experience. With several young midfielders currently in the squad, they are searching for a seasoned figure who can steady the ship and offer moments of magic. Walker’s leadership abilities makes him a top candidate.

Salford City

Salford City are preparing to strive for promotion. Despite a disappointing season, the Ammies remain one of League Two’s most well-funded clubs. Walker meets their criteria: proven, technically gifted, and with something to prove.

A Midfield Maestro Worth The Risk?

When fit, Jamie Walker has regularly demonstrated that he belongs among League Two’s top creative midfielders. His ability to move between the lines, make precise passes, and score goals makes him a player that any manager in League Two would want.

Jamie Walker has scored 19 goals and assisted 13 in 125 appearances for Bradford City.

However, there is a trade-off. Walker’s age and injury history could give any club concerns. At 31, and with a history of muscle problems, regulating his workload will be critical.
