Bradford City Interested In Ex-Everton Defender

It has been a crazy summer window so far, with plenty of transfer talk and controversial switches, especially in League One and at newly-promoted side Bradford City.

Blackpool defender Matthew Pennington, who came through Everton’s academy, looks set to depart Bloomfield Road. This was reported by the Blackpool Gazette on Tuesday.

His destination is still unknown. However, it could well be Valley Parade. This is due to reports suggesting that a deal has been agreed for the centre half to swap seaside for EFL League One new boys Bradford City.

Pennington made 21 appearances for the Seasiders in League One last season, but only 18 were starts despite his pedigree. He has also played for the likes of Leeds, Hull and Ipswich. The defender even made seven Premier League appearances for Everton.

Talks had been held between Blackpool and Pennington over a new deal since the close of the season, but it looks like he sees his future elsewhere with the arrivals of Fraser Horsfall and Micheal Ihiekwe perhaps putting a starting spot in jeopardy.

The Bantams have already added defenders Curtis Tilt, Joe Wright and Ciaran Kelly who extended his City contract on Tuesday. Add the likes of Aden Baldwin and Neill Byrne and the defensive options are adding up for the Bantams.

Would this be a good signing for Bradford City? Tell us in the comments below
