Blackburn Rovers To Bid For French Defender

Blackburn Rovers are set to bid seven-figures for Legia Warsaw defender, Steve Kapaudi.

After losing manager John Eustace to Derby County last season the club appointed Valerian Ismael. After a rough start, the Frenchman really got Rovers going, nearly getting the club back into the playoffs.

Whilst some fans and critics believe that Blackburn overachieved under Eustace, performance under Ismael would suggest that Rovers can get back in the hunt for a playoff spot this year.

With Danny Batth set to join Derby County this summer, defensive reinforcements are a must at Ewood Park.

Kapaudi presents a solid replacement, standing at 6ft 5, the towering defender can bring a lot to the northwest.

The 27-year-old DR Congo international has been with Polish Giants, Legia Warsaw for two seasons, entering the final year of his contract as we head into this campaign.

In the last two seasons, Kapaudi has been a stalwart at the back for Legia, but no more so than in 2024-25, where the defender played 47 times, netting five goals including two in the Europa Conference League.

At 27, he presents a player in their prime years, one that can perform now and even step up, should Rovers find a way to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers having scouted the player last year.

Reports state that the club plans to bid around £1.5 million for Kapaudi, with him being one of Head of Football Operations, Rudy Gestede’s primary targets in this window.

The club know they will need at least one central defender within this window to compete at the top level of the Championship. Should the Kapaudi deal come to fruition, it is unlikely this will be the teams last signing in defence before the start of the season.
