Derby County are closing in on the signing of Patrick Agyemang with the deal reported to be ‘all but done’.
Derby have been reported to have beaten fellow EFL Championship side Leicester City to the signing of the 24 year old. Rams manager John Eustace will be hoping Patrick and recent new addition Carlton Morris will help fix Derby’s goal troubles from last season.
Delays In Completion
Due to the USA’s progression through to the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the deal is expected to be delayed till the 30th June at the earliest. However, a fee has been agreed between Charlotte and the Rams.
Contract talks are said to have gone well despite no in-person contact between the player and Derby. This matches the rest of the deal. Again, this is because of the striker’s involvement in the USA’s CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign.
Another cause for the delay is due to the medical having to be worked around the USA’s schedule as well as the completion of the work permit details. However, no issues are expected with this.
Patrick Agyemang’s Journey
Patrick Agyemang has scored 2 goals in 3 matches so far in this CONCACAF Gold Cup campaign. Furthermore, he has scored 17 goals in 59 games for Charlotte FC.
Agyemang started his football journey in the American college system playing for Eastern Connecticut Warriors before moving on in to play for the Rhode Island Rams in 2020. The 24 year old then remained at the Rhode Island side for 2 years scoring 19 goals in that time.
Despite his parents Ghanaian roots, Patrick chose to represent his country of birth and has scored 5 goals in 9 appearances.
At 24, Agyemang is still raw in his ability but his height and power will certainly give EFL Championship defenders a lot to think about. This is arguably a signing that Derby fans should be excited about.
What Does This Show About Derby County?
This signing shows the ambition John Eustace’s side have this season. This ambition is further suggested through links to Danny Bath, Andreas Weimann and Tyrhys Dolan.
This follows the signing of Carlton Morris already. With this intent, it can be said that Derby are looking to have a solid foundation for a climb up the table this coming season.
