Southampton Target Ex-Premier League Player

Southampton are reportedly eyeing up a transfer move for former Liverpool and now RB Salzburg man Bobby Clark, as the 20-year-old attracts interest from England once again, from a Football League World report.

Will Still is looking to further add to his squad this window, with The Saints needing to prepare in hope of another promotion straight back into the Premier League next season, and with the ambitions of sealing the exciting Clark, it is clear that the South Coast Side are ready to be brave in the market this summer window.

What could Bobby Clark bring to St Mary’s?

After only a year away, Bobby Clark could be back on his way to England, but what could he offer to somebody like Southampton?

Well, the 20-year-old certainly has an exciting future ahead of him, and certain aspects of his game already look to be pretty strong through FotMob statistics.

Across his first Bundesliga campaign with Salzburg last season, Clark managed to register an 82.1% pass accuracy, which makes him look like a classic and basic midfielder, spraying passes around in a calm and consistent manner.

That’s something Southampton certainly could need for next season, with Will Still likely to implement a possession-based tactic on his new Saints Side…

With other stats above the average in the passing department, it seems that already, despite being only 20, Clark could possess some excellent traits that makes Southampton the ideal destination this summer.

Should The Saints Sign Clark?

However, with Clark being pretty unproven in the English leagues, which in themselves bring immense competition, and certain areas of his game not quite being at a quality standard just yet, would the addition of Clark be suitable for Southampton at this time?

It definitely seems like it should pay off. Maybe a season in a more rotational role to integrate Clark into the EFL stage would work better, and then that would really allow the ex-Liverpool man to truly kick on in his second season on the South Coast and try to reap maximum rewards for future development.

A season’s experience in the Championship with Southampton before becoming a huge part of their side, whatever division in the second year, would be a massive boost, and it seems a no-brainer for both the club and the player for a transfer to be completed.

What do you think, though. Is Clark good enough or should Southampton find more proven quality instead?
