What Does Will Hondermarck Bring To Bromley?

Bromley announced Will Hondermarck as their first signing of the summer transfer window on 27th June 2025.

The 24-year-old midfielder arrived following the expiry of his contract at Northampton Town, reuniting with former Cobbler teammate Mitch Pinnnock at Hayes Lane.

Here’s what to expect from the new man in the middle, and why we believe this is a smart signing for the League Two outfit.

Physical Presence And Box to Box Ability

Standing at around 6’1ft, Hondermarck has built a reputation as n athletic, powerful midfielder. In a January 2023 interview, he described himself as “a box-to-box midfielder… I run back to win the ball and then drive forward”.

Former manager Jon Brady, who had perused him across three windows highlighted his athleticism, mobility and adaptability in midfield systems. Bromley can expect a player who covers ground with intent. He is often seen in compact central zones and rarely dragged wide, ensuring teammates have a stable anchor.

Versatility And Adaptability

Hondermarck’s career so far, spanning Drogheda, Norwich, Harrogate, Barnsley, and then Northampton, reveals a player who is willing and able to adapt to the challenges faced at a new club.

The highest level he has operated at is the Championship with Barnsley (17 appearances).

For clubs like Bromley, the recruitment of players who know what it means to compete at a higher level is invaluable, as they will look to improve on their 11th place finish in League Two last season.

Hondermarck’s breadth of football league experience at the still young age of 24 will only be beneficial for his time in South East London.

International Pedigree

Born in Orléans, France but raised in Dublin, Hondermarck decided to declare internationally for his mother’s nation of Congo.

June 2024 saw him make his senior debut for the nation in an AFCON qualifier. Exposure to international football carries composure and maturity, attributes likely to benefit the Bromley’s midfield and Hondermarck’s individual game.

Immediate And Long Term Impacts

In League Two, resilience and energy are crucial traits for a midfielder to have. Hondermarck has both qualities in abundance. With that being said, he isn’t the type of player that will be finding his name on the score sheet all too often.

My biggest criticism of his game is his lack of attacking output, with zero goal contributions in 1,345 minutes of football last season.

If his role at Bromley is anything similar to that of his time at Northampton, expect a much more defensive minded player who will work hard off the ball but offer very little in attacking sequences.

As mentioned before, at 24 years of age Hondermarck still has plenty of room to grow.

If he can become more proficient on the ball and evolve the attacking side of his game, there is no reason that he can’t become a top end League Two midfielder for Bromley.

Though out of his depth in League One, the drop may help him find his level and regular gametime will catalyse his development.

Final Assessment Of Will Hondermarck

Hondermarck won’t league the league in goals or assists, but he brings a dependable, pragmatic foundation that Bromley’s midfield needs. He offers:

  • Defensive stability, especially in transitional phases
  • Energetic support alongside more forward minded midfielders
  • A composed presence with higher league experience

In short, Bromley isn’t bringing in fireworks with this signing. They’re bolstering their core with a steady, grounded midfielder who’s hungry to prove that he can be a relied on in a winning side.
