During the summer transfer window, several EFL Championship sides have shown intent to the rest of the EFL Championship.
Henceforth, the bookmakers have listed each of the following teams as an EFL Championship promotion favourite.
Therefore, I am going to be listing a sensible transfer target for each EFL Championship promotion favourite. These signings would give them each an extra boost in their quest to achieve promotion to the Premier League next season.
Ipswich Town – Ellis Simms
Our first player and striker on the list is current Coventry City striker Ellis Simms. He played
in the EFL Championship during the 2024-2025 campaign.
Simms, during the course of last season, netted six goals and assisted twice whilst also playing 43 matches.
Even though he is 24 years old, the Englishman also holds a wealth of experience across several
leagues in England.
Furthermore, he is more than capable of delivering in the EFL Championship.
This, alongside his pivotal goal-scoring threat, would be a useful attribute in Ipswich’s quest for promotion next season.
This move would be possible as Ipswich arguably have a big reputation. Furthermore, they can be seen to have large ambitious due to targeting promotion next season.
Southampton – Olivier Deman
Our second player falls in the form of the current Werder Bremen left wing back, Olivier
Deman.
The 25-year-old would be having his first spell in England if this move were to happen.
With his quick pace, an ability to cross and a creative spark, you can see why he would fit in at the Saints.
As well as this, with 17 successful dribbles during his spell on loan at Royal Antwerp last season. Deman clearly possesses an attacking threat.
This signing therefore would arguably be beneficial for Southampton in their quest to achieve
promotion back to the Premier League.
Sheffield United – Tyler Bindon
Our third player falls in the form of current Nottingham Forest player Tyler Bindon who
played his football at EFL League One side Reading in the 2024-2025 season.
The 20-year-old would bring EFL League One experience from excelling in the previous
season at Reading.
As well as this, with two goals throughout the course of the 13 goals Reading scored from
set pieces, Bindon brings an eye for goal. This is something that could push Sheffield
United further up the table than last season.
Through joining the Blades, the New Zealand man would also be working alongside Reuben Selles, his previous boss.
Birmingham City – Richard Kone
The penultimate player on our list, who has been reported to have attracted interest from Birmingham City, is striker Richard Kone.
The Wycombe Wanderers man could be a good option to pursue for the Blues. This is because of his impressive display in EFL League One last season.
This impressive display saw the striker net 18 times and assist three times across the course of 42 matches.
The 21-year-old could use his experience and success from his previous time in EFL League One to be successful in the EFL Championship.
Therefore, a move to the EFL Championship for Kone may be just the challenge he is looking for next season. This is because it will improve him even more and develop his abilities even further.
This is especially relevant with Birmingham City, who are looking to consolidate in the EFL
Championship and push for promotion to the Premier League.
Middlesbrough – Alfie Doughty
With a single goal and four assists, Doughty has the ability to contribute in a direct attacking
state. Furthermore, he also has the ability to contribute in a creative sense.
As well as this, the 25-year-old is also able to contribute defensively. This is because he was able to win 38 tackles last season. He also had a 62.3% successful tackle percentage.
Through Doughty linking up with his old boss, Rob Edwards, Middlesbrough would be
bringing EFL Championship experience, depth, and competition to their line-up.
