EXCLUSIVE: Abu Kamara Among Others Considering Future at Hull City

The Lower Tiers understands that rising star Abu Kamara is among several players now reconsidering their futures at the MKM Stadium. The 21-year-old winger is believed to be growing increasingly unsettled following a series of developments that have thrown the Tigers’ summer plans into chaos.

Just six days ago, Hull City confirmed via a statement on their official website that the club had been placed under a transfer embargo by the English Football League (EFL), with a three-window fee restriction also imposed. The club stated that they intend to appeal the punishment and remain “confident of resolving the matter as soon as possible.”

However, Hull were forced to pay an outstanding debt for the second time in a week relating to an overdue payment to Manchester City related to last season’s loan of defender Finley Burns. Although the debt was settled on Monday and the embargo was quietly lifted, sources close to the club say the disruption behind the scenes has left players and staff frustrated, with growing uncertainty about the direction the club is heading.

About Abu Kamara

For Kamara, a player with serious ambitions and growing interest from other Championship sides and beyond, the situation has triggered serious reflection about his place at the club.

The talented winger joined Hull City in the summer of 2024 following a breakthrough loan spell at Portsmouth, where he helped the South Coast club clinch the League One title. During that season, on loan from Norwich City, Kamara made 46 league appearances, scoring eight goals and contributing consistently with his pace and direct style on the wing.

His performances at Fratton Park caught the attention of Hull’s recruitment team, leading to a permanent switch from Norwich for an undisclosed fee. In his debut campaign with the Tigers, Kamara featured in 36 league games and found the net five times, becoming a key figure in the team. Primarily operating on the right flank, his ability to take on defenders, deliver with both feet, and stretch backlines made him one of Hull’s most exciting prospects during the 2024/25 season.

Kamara’s rise didn’t go unnoticed at international level either. In June 2024, he earned his first two caps for England’s Under-20s, featuring in matches against Sweden and the Republic of Ireland.

But now, less than a year into his Hull City career, Kamara finds himself at a crossroads.

What’s Next?

Sources close to the player have indicated that he is the player is keeping his options open this summer. While Kamara has not handed in a formal transfer request, it’s understood that he would consider a move if a stable, ambitious club came calling.

And he may not be alone. Multiple first-team players are believed to be assessing their own futures. With the current sanctions in place, the club is prohibited from spending any money on transfer fees or loan arrangements involving payments such as signing bonuses or loan fees. Only free agents and unpaid loans are permitted — a major blow to any hopes of strengthening the squad meaningfully ahead of the new season.

Owner Acun Ilicali attempted to reassure supporters over the weekend, claiming the three-window restriction stemmed from a “misunderstanding” regarding the loan of Louie Barry from Aston Villa. Speaking publicly, he stressed that the club had already lodged an appeal and remained confident of a positive outcome. Still, the situation remains fluid, and the uncertainty is casting a long shadow over pre-season preparations.

In the meantime, clubs across the Championship and in Scotland are understood to be monitoring Kamara’s situation closely. His age, versatility, and recent form make him an appealing prospect, especially given the possibility Hull may need to sell to stay afloat financially.

The club’s precarious financial position could force their hand. Kamara is seen internally as one of Hull’s most valuable assets, and while he has only recently joined, a sizable offer could prove too tempting to reject.

Hull City have yet to comment publicly on Kamara’s future, but sources suggest any potential departure would not come cheaply. Nonetheless, player ambition and club circumstances may soon collide, and with pre-season ticking on, clarity will be needed sooner rather than later.

For now, Abu Kamara remains a Hull City player. But unless the club can steady the ship quickly and provide reassurances to their emerging stars, the summer could mark a turning point — not just for the club’s financial health, but for the future of one of English football’s brightest young wingers.
