What Does Nahki Wells Bring To Luton Town?

Luton Town have announced the signing of striker Nahki Wells, who joins the club on a permanent basis.

Wells,35, played his football at Bristol City last season, where he was able to score ten goals. He was also able to assist on four occasions.

Since joining the Robins in the 2019-20 season, the Bermudian international has made 237 appearances. During his time, he has been able to score on 48 occasions.

A Crucial Summer Window For Luton Town

Wells joins Luton in a crucial summer transfer window. The striker will become the sixth signing of the Hatters’ summer transfer window.

The Kenilworth Road outfit will be aiming to bounce back to the EFL Championship following their relegation to League One in the 24/25 campaign.

During this campaign, the Hatters were only able to score 45 goals. This was the joint second lowest of any team in the English Second Division.

The addition of Wells, who has a wealth of experience across all Leagues in England, arguably is a replacement for Carlton Morris and will add firepower to the Kenilworth Road outfit’s attacking frontline.

What Qualities Does Wells Bring?

The addition of Nahki Wells to the Luton side adds quality to the side. However, there are some areas where Wells excels.

One of these areas is in possession. During the 2024-25 campaign, the striker was able to make 18 successful dribbles. Alongside this, he was also able to create 21 chances and assist on four occasions. This shows that when the 35-year-old is in possession of the ball, he is able to affect the game in a positive manner and make a real difference to it.

However, one thing in possession that Wells needs to work on is crossing. During the 2024-25 season, he was only able to complete four successful crosses and had a 13.8%  crossing accuracy. This could be a problem as crossing is a part of Luton’s high-energy and attacking style of play.

Furthermore, his defensive statistics are also impressive. Last season, he was able to win 20 tackles as a striker. Alongside this, he was also able to make 16 blocks. This arguably shows his ability to battle for the ball out of possession and his ability to put his body on the line for his side in a match.

A Good Signing?

The signing of Nahki Wells is, on the surface of brilliant and holds lots of potential. He brings good experience, great skills, and most importantly, knows how to hit the back of the net. However, with his crossing ability, could his impact be limited?
