Stockport County are looking into making a move for Finnish defender, Arttu Hoskonen.
The 28-year-old central defender is currently a free agent after leaving Polish top division side, KS Crocovia. The player reportedly turned down a new deal to seek pastures new.
Who Is Artu Hoskonen?
The Finland international has played the majority of his career in his homeland, before moving to Poland in 2022. Before making the move across countries, in his one season at HJK, Hoskonen made nine appearances in the Europa League for the club.
It was his move to Cracovia that helped the defender get an international call up, making his debut in September 2022.
Hoskonen is still a key part of the Finnish national team, playing 90 minutes in both of the team’s recent World Cup Qualifiers, that included a 2-1 win over Poland.
Dave Challinor’s side lost in the playoffs to Leyton Orient last season and hoping to go one better in League One this campaign.
Whilst losing some players from their promotion winning campaign that got them into League One in 2023-24, they have added Joseph Olowu, who helped Doncaster Rovers win League Two last season and completed a double swoop for Peterborough United duo Tayo Edun and Malik Mothersille, with the team hoping the latter can replace Isaac Olaofe.
Hoskonen would help Stockport County to build on a defence that only allowed 1.7 shots on target, per game on average last season.
After the exit of Fraser Horsfall, it’s thought that, alongside fellow new boy, Tayo Edun, the 28-year-old Fin, can recreate the sides defensive form once again.
It is not yet known whether a deal has been proposed with Hoskonen as of yet, but with the player a free agent, it would appear a matter of time before the League One club makes contact with the player.
