Fleetwood Town Eye Former Player Signing

Fleetwood Town are believed to interested in bringing back former striker Ched Evans for a second spell with the Cod Army after becoming a free agent following on from his release from Preston, reports Alan Nixon

The veteran attacker is determined to continue playing football, despite suffering a serious neck injury and being 36-years-old. Fleetwood was a destination that allowed Evans to notch some impressive goalscoring figures during his first spell at the club.

Evans‘ Qualities

Ched Evans has still got something to offer for Fleetwood, and his statistics from FotMob are really good indicators as to what the 36-year-old attacker might bring to Highbury Stadium.

Looking back through the years, Evans is arguably a player who can get shots off, especially in the 2022/2023 Championship season, where, despite only starting 14 games, the Welsh striker was able to shoot 43 times, 17 of which being on target.

The 36-year-old also consistently registers a high xG number, and what makes this an impressive read is that large numbers of Evans’ expected goals come from non-penalty situations, proving that he doesn’t just rely on scoring from 12 yards out to create shooting chances.

Is Signing Ched Evans A Good Idea?

With Ched Evans now being 36, realistically the Welshman has only one more strong year left in him, possibly two if he can keep his physicality up. Despite this, we believe that Fleetwood should still try and pick up their former attacking star once again.

As Evans is available for a free transfer, the Cod Army realistically wouldn’t lose out massively if things didn’t work out. Evans would also bring an impressive goal record and also the masses of experience to Town, who might well have an eye on a promotion push.

The Cod Army would therefore love someone with a brilliant track record ahead of the net, and also some experience that can be pumped out to all of the players of all ages within the squad at Highbury Stadium. If the Welsh attacker can stay injury free, he could make his final year in football a good one.
