Who Is Harrison Burrows

Harrison James Burrows, born on January 12th 2002 is an English professional footballer for Sheffield United. Burrows was born in Kings Lynn in the east of England. Growing up, Harrison had a passion for football and joined the Peterborough United academy at the age of 6, upon joining the academy in 2008.

The Posh raised him as a central attacking midfielder but as he got older he discovered that he was more comfortable in the left-back position but still keeping the attacking theme to his game. 

At the age of 15, Burrows made an appearance in a pre-season friendly against Ipswich Town. In January 2019, Harrison Burrows earnt himself his first professional contract. In August 2019, he made his professional debut against Oxford United in the EFL Cup.

At the age of 17, he made his full league debut in a 4–0 win against MK Dons, Burrows made 4 appearances in this season. In the 2020/21 season, Burrows made 21 league appearances and he scored one goal in a 2–1 loss to Burton Albion on 6th March 2021. Peterborough gained promotion to the EFL Championship this season finishing 2nd behind Hull City. 

Breaking Into The Team At Peterborough United

In the 2021/22 season, Harrison Burrows made 37 Championship appearances and 2 FA Cup appearances, one of those being a 10 minute cameo against Premier League side Manchester City. Burrows scored 3 Championship goals, including a 2–1 win over Derby county on August 14th 2021, Burrows also managed to pickup 4 yellow cards over the season and he started to become recognised by the Peterborough fans. 

After relegation from the Championship, Peterborough fell back into League One with Harrison making 41 appearances and scoring 4 goals, including a 5–2 win against Plymouth Argyle who went on to be champions that season, but despite this The Posh fans were not happy with Burrows’ performances over the season with fans even shouting abuse at him during games.

Burrows trying his best for his boyhood club receiving nothing but hate from the fans of the club he supports. In this season, Peterborough had many ups and downs with the biggest down point being when they bottled a 4–0 lead in the League One playoff semi finals against Sheffield Wednesday. 

The 2023–24 season was an emotional one for fans and players, from falling in love with a loan player to losing major stars, Peterborough started the season with high hopes but sometimes struggled to find form and Burrows still receiving verbal abuse from The Posh fans he found a way to prove them wrong.

The team this year had a great relationship and the whole team were at the best they ever had been and loan signing Peter Kioso made a huge impact on the team on and off the pitch, the team were flying and Burrows was finally getting good recognition and love from the fans even earning his own chant “Harrison Burrows he’s one of our own”, showing they’re proud to have him as a homegrown talent and Peterborough player.

Burrows bagged 6 league goals including a goal against Derby County on New Years Day. Burrows also picked up the captains armband soon after this. Peterborough also made an incredible run in the Bristol Street Motors trophy reaching the final against Wycombe Wanderers who recently beat Peterborough 5–2.

The game was looking to be a 0–0 draw until in the 85th minute, Burrows managed to score the first goal to go 1–0 up. A couple minutes after The Chair Boys equalised so it still looked like extra time was on the horizon, that was until Burrows scored an absolutely extraordinary whipped goal to push Peterborough to lift the trophy and finally see the fans adore him.

Peterborough would suffer playoff heartbreak again, losing to Oxford in the semi final 2–1 via a penalty given away by the captain Harrison Burrows which was pure heartbreak for everyone involved. Despite this, Burrows was EFL League One player of the season. 

The incredible season Burrows had got him an amazing transfer to Premier League relegation side Sheffield United. Burrows had an incredible season for The Blades scoring 5 goals and gathering 3 assists in 43 games, the fans soon came to love him at Bramall Lane.

Burrows also played Left wing and central defensive midfield across the season, The Blades looked on course to win promotion straight back to the Premier League until they hit a rough patch of form and got caught by Leeds and Burnley, who went on to win promotion together. Burrows back in the playoffs for the 3rd year in a row.

He picked up player of the match in both semi-final legs, he managed to score and assist in the away tie and bag 2 assists in the home tie to win 6–0 on aggregate. It was not meant to be though, heartbreak in the final.

Sheffield United went on to lose 2–1 against Sunderland in the final with a goal from Tyrese Campbell for the Blades, in the 34th minute.

Burrows scored an amazing goal from outside the box to go 2–0 up but VAR and the referee decided it was offside because of a Sheffield United player obstructing the goalkeepers view. Sunderland scored 2 late goals to gain promotion back to the Premier League. 

In that season, Burrows got into the EFL Championship team of the season. Burrows is being regarded by fans across the country as England’s future left back and only being 23, does he have the potential to make it into the national team?
