Since Tyler Roberts’ arrival at Birmingham City in the summer of 2023 it has not been an ideal two years for the ex-Leeds man.
After making his debut for the club in a 1-1 draw against Swansea City in August 2023, the West Bromwich Albion academy product was sidelined for a lengthy period with a heel injury. In addition, due to the change in leadership from John Eustace to Chris Davies, Roberts appears to have been a forgotten man, playing no part in Birmingham’s record setting League One campaign.
His last appearance for the Blues came in May 2024 in a goalless draw at Rotherham as the side slipped to relegation.
While Tyler Roberts has struggled for regular football in the last 6 years last year he spent a season long loan at Northampton Town where he made 29 appearances for the Cobblers. In these 29 appearances though Roberts only managed to score 1 goal.
Mansfield, set to become his fifth club in as many years, appear to believe they can find his shooting boots. The Stags will also be hoping they can keep Roberts fit as injuries are perhaps the biggest reason for why this ex-premier league striker is now seemingly struggling to find his feet in League One. Throughout Roberts’ career he has suffered a plethora of different injuries, with many of them being long term.
Tyler Roberts spent pretty much the whole of 2019 sidelined with a cracked shin bone in February. Knee surgery in the summer and other little injuries hindering his playing time throughout the year. Then in March 2022 immediately as Roberts came on as a substitute for Jack Harrison, he ruptured a hamstring tendon resulting in him missing the rest of that season. Although he returned to fitness in December 2022, an injury in January 2023 meant once again Roberts missed another season through injury.
With just a few hours left of the Transfer Window, Tyler Roberts looks set to have this medical at Mansfield where the club sit 10th in League One, picking up 10 points from a possible 18. Can this move reinvigorate the Welsh internationals career and propel the Stags to a double promotion or will Roberts once again fall to injury woes? Only time will tell.
