Preston Beat Multiple Clubs to Chelsea Striker David Datro Fofana

According to Pete O’Rourke, Preston are set to land the loan signing of Chelsea’s outcast striker David Datro Fofana on a season long loan deal.

Preston have reportedly beaten fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic to his signature who sent in an inquiry this morning, as well as fending off slightly more subtle interest from Oxford United and Stoke City, to take David Datro Fofana on loan for some more frequent game time outside of Chelsea’s insanely high costing squad.

David Datro Fofana is contracted with Chelsea until 2029, but it doesn’t seem like he will be featuring in the matchday squad at Stamford Bridge for quite a while!

Preston’s Strikeforce currently isn’t the strongest in the Championship, having lost key man Emil Riis Jakobsen to Bristol City earlier this window, and Will Keane and Milutin Osmajic struggling with injury problems, so are currently left with Daniel Jebbison (who’s record isn’t particularly impressive) and Michael Smith as their options, in a formation that utilises two strikers.

Since joining from Molde in Norway, David Datro Fofana has only featured on four occasions for parent club Chelsea, and his been sent on his fair share of loan spells across Europe recently. His first was to the German capital, joining Union Berlin on a 6-month deal in the summer of 2023, where he featured 17 times for Die Eisernen, bagging goals twice, including one in the Champions League in an away fixture against Italian giants Napoli.

The second half of this campaign came with Premier League side Burnley, where David Datro Fofana improved his previous total at Union, by doubling it and scoring four goals in the Premier League, despite Burnley ultimately ending up finishing in the bottom three and facing relegation.

Last season was a lot more underwhelming for David Datro Fofana, as he spent four months with Turkish Super Lig side Goztepe, but only made cameos in nine games, before his loan was cut short due to injury troubles, despite scoring on two occasions for the Turkish side.
