2 Out And 1 In At Coventry City?

With the departures of Norman Bassette and Ben Sheaf now official – read here, Coventry City are looking to the market to make some incoming signings of their own, and it looks as if it could be Ipswich Town centre-back Luke Woolfenden.

It was confirmed earlier in the week by many sources that the 26 year-old defender had asked to leave Portman Road, with Kieran Mckenna saying: “Luke’s made it clear for quite a while that he wants to go, so we’ll see what that situation ends up in,”. You can read further on that here from CoventryLive.

What Have Coventry City Offered?

With roughly two hours to go until the 7pm deadline, it is looking likely that the Coventry Building Society Arena will be his new home with a £4 million pound package expected.

Woolfenden appeared 15 times in the Premier League, registering 1,187 minutes last season under Kieran McKenna, and was an integral part to the side that earned back-to-back promotions before last season.

Centre-back is a position that Coventry desperately need depth in, so the signing makes sense from that perspective, especially with the English defender being a threat from set-pieces, standing at 6ft4.

Frank Lampard spoke out about wanting a centre-half earlier in the window; the Sky Blues were chasing Charlie Hughes from Hull City for the majority of August, but with that looking more unlikely as time ticks on, Woolfenden seems to be the player they have opted for.

Since joining the Tractor Boys from Bromley in 2017/18, he has appeared 215 times for the club, contributing to 9 goals in that period; and he brings a wealth of EFL experience with him to CBS.
