Sheffield United have completed the loan signing of Ipswich Town winger Chieo Ogbene for the remainder of the season.
Ogbene, aged 28, suffered an Achilles injury last October which ultimately curtailed his first Ipswich season incredibly short. A loan move away was discussed by boss Kieran McKenna after their draw against Derby, and such outcome has prevailed on deadline day.
Ogbene becomes the second confirmed departure on loan for Ipswich today, and there are further outgoings expected from Portman Road with Chaplin and Woolfenden also set for Championship moves of their own.
What Does He Bring To Sheffield United?
With pace, power and good experience across the footballing pyramid, Ogbene is certainly a good pick-up for Sheffield United, who have looked very off the pace in the final third so far in the new campaign.
Capped at an international level plenty of times for Ireland, not only will Ogbene bring attacking quality, which has been tricky to find for The Blades, but also some much needed experience to the side.
With plenty of positive attributes in his locker and a really good career to date, collecting minutes after such a big injury is a must for someone of Ogbene’s ability, especially after the wide additions Ipswich have made this summer window.
ITFC have acquired Walle Egeli, McAteer and also Akpom who bolster their wide options in attack. With Ogbene potentially not quite at the levels ready yet for McKenna, sending him away on loan to a club with a similar goal this season is a very good move.
However, what are your takes on this move. Will Ogbene perform as a new Sheffield United player or will the loan move not work out as planned?
