Preston North End have certainly been linked with a few names on deadline day, and it looked certain they were to bring in two attacking options in the final hours.
However, reports from Alan Nixon this evening suggest that any move for Tom Cannon of Sheffield United is now off, and in the latest sucker punch, David Datro Fofana is now looking likely to join Championship rivals Charlton instead.
Losing both players with minimal time to find a replacement is incredibly challenging for Preston. There’s not long left at all, and strikers of really quality aren’t easy to find this late into the window.
What Do Preston North End Already Have?
However, looking at what is already at Preston, the Lilywhites do possess options of real quality and top pedigree already, with Daniel Jebbison, the tried and tested Will Keane and also Milutin Osmajic already in at Deepdale.
Although it looked likely Preston were to get at least one extra attacker through the door, looking back into the squad currently in tact under manager Paul Heckingbottom, the options available to him aren’t half bad if no further additions do arrive before 7pm.
With Will Keane aging, it doesn’t look likely he would’ve been an option if one of Datro Fofana or Cannon were to arrive at Preston, but with his experience and an excellent goal record to date, he may now have to be reconsidered by the coaching team at Preston going ahead into the depths of the new season.
There’s still time, although not much at all for Preston to find an extra attacker to bring through the door. However, to suffer a double transfer blow after being hopeful all day is massive at this stage on deadline day.
