Leicester City have had a tough start to their season, following last season’s relegation from the Premier League.
The Foxes sit in 16th position and if they’re to return to the top league this season, it would take a minor miracle.
On Saturday, the former Premier League champions were 3-0 down against Sheffield United, before pulling it back to 3-2. The damage had already been done in the first half though.
Is Marti Cifuentes The Man To Lead Leicester City Forward?
It’s this sort of form that has threatened Marti Cifuentes position, following his summer move from Queens Park Rangers. The East Midlands outfit have won 6, drawn 6 and lost 6 this campaign.
Controversy enters the conversation because in reality, Cifuentes side should be doing much better than they actually are. It is strongly believed in the fan base that the Foxes should be at least a top 7 side.
PSR & Points Deductions?
That’s not the only cloud hanging over the King Power Stadium either, Leicester City overspent in the 2023/24 season.
This was the season they won the Championship with 97 points, beating Ipswich Town to the title by a single point.
It’s now been announced that Leicester could face up to a nine point deduction for breaking Profit and Sustainability rules.
With the Foxes on just 24 points, this deduction could harm their season even further. Just ask Sheffield Wednesday who are currently on -10, following a further 6 point deduction.
Who Else Could Manage Leicester City?
With Cifuentes position becoming increasingly more difficult, undoubtedly other names will be thrown around.
Could Brendan Rogers return to the Foxes? It would be like going back to an ex-partner and there’s surely more chance of Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy returning than the Northern Irishman.
Could Daniel Farke be another option? Providing Leeds United sack him, which is looking likely. Former Rangers and Southampton man Russell Martin could also be in the running. Could former Manchester United man Michael Carrick be interested?
Out Of Form Foxes
One thing is for certain, any new man would have a job on his hands. The former Premier League champions have won just 2 of their last 9 games and have had some heavy defeats, such as the 3-0 loss away to Southampton.
A game which saw 19-year-old Oladebe Aluko sent off on his debut for the club as he received 2 yellow cards.
Consistency does seem to be an issue, Marti Cifuentes does not seem to know his best 11 players. Injuries haven’t helped though, as he has lost his number one Jakub Stolarczyk to a groin injury.
Wales International Jordan James does seem to be one player in-form but in general, Leicester don’t have enough players helping the midfielder.
Who is Up Next?
It doesn’t get any easier either, The Foxes visit Pride Park to play rivals Derby County this coming Saturday, a 12:30pm kick-off for Sky Sports.
One thing is for certain. Marti Cifuentes and Leicester City need a win and to hit some form, or they could be separated!
