Lincoln City exited the Vertu trophy last Tuesday in a limp performance as they went down 2-0 against Huddersfield Town.
The Terriers just wanted it that little bit more and have been rewarded with a home tie against Rotherham United in the last 16.
The Imps didn’t play on Saturday just gone as they had been knocked out of the Fa Cup in the first round, losing to League Two Salford City on penalties back in November.
The bad news for Lincoln City doesn’t end there either, key forward duo James Collins and Ben House have both been ruled out of the Barnsley game on Tuesday, at least.
Ben House
It could be argued that House is the biggest injury concern as he was spotted in the fanzone at the LNER Stadium during that Huddersfield defeat.
Worryingly, the former Eastleigh man was spotted on crutches.
It is not yet known how long House will be missing for but the crutches cannot be a good sign at all and surely he will have an extended spell on the sidelines.
House has been involved in 15 of the Imps 18 League One matches and with his high pressing and closing down of defenders, he will be a huge miss.
James Collins
Former Derby County man Collins has played in all 18 League One matches so far and his experience has been invaluable to Michael Skubala’s side, however, he went down with a knee injury early on in that defeat to Huddersfield Town and he is also an injury concern.
Collins has scored 4 goals and has an assist to his name.
Lincoln City’s Season So Far
The Imps have probably surpassed expectations so far this season, they currently sit in 4th place in the third tier. Michael Skubala’s side are just 4 points off 1st placed Cardiff City.
City have won 9, lost just 5 and drawn 4 in a largely successful start to the season.
The next few weeks could be integral to City’s season with games against play-off chasing Barnsley and league leaders Cardiff City to come at home, with a trip away to relegation threatened Blackpool sandwiched in the middle.
Skubala will be hoping for good news on his forward duo.
