Where Could Ben Sheaf Go If He Departs Coventry City?
Coventry City club captain Ben Sheaf is linked with a deadline day move to newboys Wrexham for a rumored £6.5 million pound fee.
The 27 year-old only has 11 months remaining on his current contract, and has accumulated a wealth of experience in the EFL Championship over the last 5 years, and as many of the Coventry faithful will know – he is a fabulous footballer on his day.
Unfortunately, injuries have stood in his way, and hampered his progression towards becoming a Premier League midfielder. But with that being said, don’t let that make you think he is not a quality player.
In fact, I would certainly have him up there as one of the signings of the summer if this deal goes through. If you want to look at our current picks, our top 5 signings so far are linked here.
At the time of writing, there is less than 12 hours of the window remaining, and this would leave a gap in the Coventry City midfield should an injury occur to any of the remaining players in Grimes, Torp, Rudoni or Allen – it does leave them short on senior players.
That being said, Kai Andrews has made his way into the first team fray as of late, so does potentially provide cover should he fail to depart on loan (which has been rumored).
A name that has been rumored is Sam Rak-Sakyi from Chelsea. It is hardly surprising to see a loan move from Chelsea linked with Coventry given the Lampard links, and isn’t an unfamiliar one to Sky Blues supporters. The addition of Matt Grimes in January put those rumors to rest, but now amid the Sheaf speculation they have risen once again.
But it will be interesting to see if Lampard sticks with the limited options or brings in any reinforcements to fill the void that the departure of Sheaf would leave in the squad.
He has been linked with a move away previously, and with Liam Kitching seeing the armband the most for Coventry this season – and with an injury for Sheaf having already occurred this season, it wouldn’t surprise me if Kitching was made permanent captain amid Sheaf’s departure.
Of course, the most important piece of business for Coventry this summer is the acquisition of the Coventry Building Society Arena, which is a fantastic piece of business for the club, the fans and the city.
Let’s wait and see what the rest of deadline day brings for Coventry.
