Louie Oppie transfer news: Championship trio of Birmingham City, Hull City and Norwich City are all reportedly chasing German defender Louis Oppie.
The full-back currently plies his trade at Bundesliga 3 side, Arminia Bielefeld, where he has been for two seasons.
The left footed player began his career in Hannover 96’s youth academy before making his senior debut for the club’s second team in 2021.
The now 23-year-old would amass 61 appearances and two goals before moving onto Bielefeld in 2023.
Since then, the player has begun to excel, having six goal involvements in his first campaign with the club before more than doubling that with 14 goal involvements in this past season, helping his team to confirm promotion to the Bundesliga 2.
Oppie can play in a multitude of positions, having been deployed at CB or even in defensive midfield. Where the 23-year-old excels is down the left-hand side. Often being used as an attacking full-back, Oppie can play anywhere on the left, with marauding runs down the wing being trademark of his game.
A move to the Championship would be a step up but with his age and impressive CV to date, it makes a lot of sense to take a chance on the young defender.
Birmingham City have made no secrets they are happy to spend big this window, but despite already having Alex Cochrane at left back, boss Chris Davies wants to add another defender to bring much needed depth.
Hull City are in the market for a left-back, needing depth in that position alongside the growing interest in Cody Drameh.
Norwich City round out the English interest in the player as they look to upgrade from the ageing Kenny Mclean.
The Championship trio will be hoping the lure of the English football pyramid can guide Oppie to the country, but they face competition from the likes of Bundesliga Union Berlin, who want to keep the player in Germany.
