Two Fires, One County: The Fiery Phenomenon In Devon

Devon has recently experienced two major events affecting its main two football teams in a big way and affecting the fans of these clubs.

Recently in Devon, a major event occurred for two major teams causing damage and raising concerns for fans of both sides.

Exeter City’s Fire

Authorities were alerted to a blaze at Exeter City’s St James Park at around 10 pm on Wednesday, 12th November 2025.

The fire started within an electrical unit in a portacabin near the Well Street end of the ground. The cabins housed the club’s medical and control room for operations such as CCTV.

Devon and Somerset Fire later ruled the fire accidental.

Alongside the cabins, some fire and smoke damage eventually spread to the Adam Stansfield stand.

Earlier today, the Devonshire side announced that after corresponding with the proper authorities, the fixture set for Saturday, 22nd November, had been postponed.

This was down to being unable to carry out the testing of equipment to keep the players and fans safe.

Exeter were due to play Burton Albion at home, and had attempted to raise funds for the damages through a GoFundMe, raising ÂŁ45,000.

Exeter currently sit in 20th in League One, just five points behind Burton Albion, who are in 12th.

After a rocky start to the season, this was far from ideal for Exeter, meaning a more congested schedule is upcoming further down the line, which could be the difference between relegation and survival.

Exeter’s fight for survival has been weaker than many expected this season, with the team predicted to have a stronger start.

Exeter have been victims of silly mistakes, which have caused them to lose or draw games late on.

Plymouth Argyle’s Fire

Meanwhile, just 46 miles down the road, another fire struck again, this time at recently relegated Plymouth Argyle’s Home Park.

Firefighters were called to Home Park on Monday, 17th November at around 09:10 pm.

A blaze had begun in a Portaloo, which was nestled against a wall of the stadium directly below some signage.

The incident was quickly managed and put out before any major damage could occur.

A statement later released by a spokesperson for the fire service, establishing that they believed the fire had been started deliberately, which could be in retaliation for the fire at Exeter just five days before.

Fortunately, it seems Plymouth has escaped lightly with upcoming fixtures not being affected too much, unlike their Devon rivals.
