EXCLUSIVE: Swindon Town To Miss Out On Top Target

The Lower Tiers understands that Swindon Town look set to miss out on Burnley striker Joe Westley who was previously with the Wiltshire club.

Joe Westley

20 year old Westley has been told by the Premier League newcomers that he is free to leave the club and its understood that the Wiltshire based side were close to completing a deal but this looks to have been scuppered.

The young striker now appears destined for a switch north of the border, as Scottish Premier League side Dundee appear to have struck an 11th hour deal with Burnley.

A lot of League One and Two clubs had shown an interest in Westley, including Bradford City, Accrington Stanley, Walsall, Wigan Athletic and of course the afore mentioned Swindon Town.

Westley is yet to make his first appearance for the Clarets but he has had successful loans at places such as AFC Fylde, Rochdale and Swindon Town.

Last season he made 17 appearances for the Robins, scoring 3 times which seems to have reignited their interest in the youngster. This included a goal on his debut as he came off the bench to give his side a 2-1 win away at Newport County.

Dundee FC

Dundee started the season on Saturday, losing 2-1 against Hibernian, highlighting their need for a striker. In Westley they appear to have found their man. The Dark Blues managed to survive relegation to the Championship last season by just 5 points.

Steven Presley’s side scored just 50 goals in a tough season, they will be hoping for much better this campaign and scoring goals will go a long way to helping them climb the table.

The Dee have just 3 strikers on their books at present. Emile Acquah on loan from Barrow, Ashley Hay on loan from Brentford and 33 year old Simon Murray. Pressley appears to be addressing this with the signing of 20 year old Westley.

Will Westley be enough to help Dundee rise up the table or do they need more signings? Let us know in the comments.
