Hull City: Promotion Contenders Elect

Hull City are having a remarkable season in the Championship this season. The Tigers currently sit in fourth place as Sergej Jakirovic’s side hunt down promotion to the Premier League.

Why Are Hull City Doing So Well?

Hull are one of those teams that actually have a plan b, many sides don’t.

The goals for the Tigers come from all over the pitch, as proven by multiple goalscorers, with Oli McBurnie top of the list on 11, Joe Gelhardt is just behind him on 10, whilst Kyle Joseph has contributed too with 15 goals across two seasons since joining from Blackpool.

Joseph also has four assists, Gelhadrt three and McBurnie five. Left-back Ryan Giles, currently out with a hamstring injury deserves special praise too, his forward runs have helped him to gain eight assists.

Sergej Jakirovic has got the fans off their seats as they play attacking, attractive football. Something craved by Hull City fans for the past few years.

Away Form

Hull City have been remarkable away from home. They currently sit in SECOND for away form, with only Middlesbrough doing any better. The north-east side have played an extra game as well. In 14 games, Hull have taken 24 points with seven wins and three draws.

Compare that to home form and the Tigers sit in seventh. They’ve still won eight and drawn two at the MKM Stadium. The tight 1-0 loss away to Stoke City and an off day against Middlesbrough, losing 4-1, are the only defeats for Hull City since the start of December.

New Signings For Hull City

The signings of the likes of John Lundstram, Joe Gelhardt and Oli McBurnie have been integral to Hull’s form, the former bringing his experience at 31-years-old, Hull will be hoping to turn his loan from Trabzonspor permanent! The latter two contributing with goals.

Add to those three loanee Amir Hadziahmetovic and Segej Jakirovic’s side have the foundations of success.

Youth and Experience

The Tigers have a mix of youth and experience and it is definitely helping.

The likes of John Lundtsram, Lewie Coyle, Oli McBurnie, Matt Crooks, Akin Famewo and John Egan can help the younger players to improve their game, whilst also using that experience to get the team over the line for a win.

Big Wins

Hull City have done well against the top six sides, beating Middlesbrough, Ipswich Town, Wrexham and Millwall.

They also started the season with a draw against League Leaders Coventry City.

Clean Sheets

Keeper Ivor Pandur has played 28 times this campaign and has managed to gain seven clean sheets in that time.

He has only missed two matches, with Dillon Phillips standing in for the EFL Cup, where Wrexham won on penalties. He also missed the FA Cup game where the Tigers won on penalties against Blackburn Rovers.

The reward for beating Rovers is a massive day at home in February against Premier League giants Chelsea!

Can Hull City Keep Hold Of Sergej Jakirovic?

With Success, comes attention.

I’m not saying Jakirovic will leave but with the clubs good form, it is bound to have caught other teams eyes. With a win rate of 1.77, Jaikrovic is doing very well and he has got Hull playing some incredible stuff.

With that being said, surely the Bosnian will be hoping he can manage in the Premier League with the Tigers. This is a huge run-in to the end of the season for both the manager and the club!

One thing is for sure, it will be a roller-coaster but it will be one Hull City fans will be glad to be involved in giving the struggles over recent seasons.
