According to an exclusive by Football League World, Luton Town have agreed a £300k fee with Gillingham for striker Joseph Gbode.
The 20-year-old, who is predominantly a striker but can play out wide on the wing, has played for the Gills since he was under 18, and he has grown into the first team with loan spells at Hastings United, Maidstone United, and, most recently, Aveley in the 23/24 season.
Last season at Gillingham, Joseph Gbode scored three goals and picked up one assist within 39 appearances, and a poor side.
So far this season, you could argue that Joseph Gbode has been a crucial part in Gareth Ainsworth’s system, with him playing 5 matches and picking up one goal.
Luton Starting Well and Where To Improve
As for Luton Town, who have started the season well after being relegated from the EFL Championship last season. They currently sit 7th in League One at the time of writing this article. The forward will add more depth in attacking areas as Joseph Gbode looks to step up a level after impressing in his time at Gillingham, and his soon-to-be new club aims to be promoted back to the EFL Championship by the end of the season, with the club having a strong start by winning 4 matches.
Joseph Gbode, who can play multiple positions across the front line could be what Luton Town needs in order to add an increased amount of pressure to Luton’s front line.
With Nahki Wells now 35 years old, don’t get me wrong, he is still a class player for the League, but his pace may have gone a little bit, and Gbode could provide a different threat and change matches off the bench.
At the age of 20, the forward is lacking experience, but Luton can develop him. It also may take the Gills man a while to come to terms with the new challenges in League One, but if Luton supports him in doing this, Joseph Gbode will have a successful spell.
