Peterborough United Midfielder to Make Step Up

Peterborough United midfielder and captain Hector Kyprianou is set to make the step up a division, with Championship side Watford poised to secure his signature.

23-year-old Kyprianou has been a main stay in the Posh starting XI for the last three seasons but announced he would not be renewing his contract following on from a poor season in League One.

Despite United’s fall off in the league, Kyprianou was able to deliver some success for Posh fans, as he captained the side to their second EFL Trophy, becoming the first team to ever win the competition in back-to-back seasons.

The midfielder netted the second goal in that 2-0 win, a parting gift after appearing 140 times for the club, scoring 16 times.

The Cypriot joins Watford at an uncertain time, with Watford moving on from Tom Cleverley and onto the 21st manager under the Pozzo regime since they took over in 2013, in the form of Uruguayan Paulo Pezzolano.

The rangy midfielder began his career at Leyton Orient, with his first taste of men’s football coming out on loan at non-league Hampton and Ricmond.

Following his loan, Kyprianou would break into the Orient first team making eight appearances in his first campaign, before 25 in his second full season.

After shining as Orient then cemented their place in League Two, United came calling as they were pushing to make it into the Championship.

Whilst promotion never came, the midfielder played a huge role in two play-off runs and bringing two trophies back to Peterborough.

The question will now be whether Kyprianou can make the step up immediately but at 23, the midfielder certainly has time on his side as he progresses once again.
