Stoke City are set to complete the signing of Plymouth Argyle defender and Ukrainian international, Maksym Talovierov.
Who Is Maksym Talovierov?
The 25-year-old joined the Cornwall side in January from Austrian side LASK as their record signing and became an integral member of the starting XI.
Argyle would ultimately fall short of their goal to remain the Championship, but Talovierov had put his quality on show.
The defender netted twice in 13 games, showing he belongs at the level, it is no wonder Stoke boss, Mark Robins, is an admirer.
Talovierov missed the end of the season due to a knee injury but has since returned to playing with his national side. It is understood the transfer to the bet365 Stadium could be complete in the coming days, a huge boost to Stoke side that lacks defenders.
The Potters only central defensive options are Ben Wilmot and Ben Gibson, the addition of Talovierov will ease Robins’s woes.
The Ukrainian will become the clubs second signing of the window, having added Welsh international Sorba Thomas last month.
Plymouth Bringing A Player In?
As one player leaves Plymouth, the club is set to bring former Norwich City stopper, Archie Mair, following his departure from the Norfolk club.
The 24-year-old spent the second half of last campaign on loan at Scottish side Motherwell but injures scuppered any chance of the player making an impact, featuring just two times.
He joins Argyle looking to make an impact and push current No. 1 Conor Hazard. It is also worth noting that 27-year-old Hazard picked up an injury on international duty and could miss the start of the season, opening the door for Mair.
Argyle are looking to return to the Championship immediately under new boss Tom Cleverley.
Whilst losing Talovierov is a big miss, it will not be an unexpected one, with replacement plans likely in action already.
