Michael Craig Wanted by THREE Championship Clubs

The Lower Tiers understands that Portsmouth, Derby County and Birmingham City are all preparing summer moves for Reading full-back Michael Craig.

The 22-year-old Right Back is out of contract in the summer after an impressive season at Reading.

His impressive form has caught the eye of Championship clubs, Portsmouth, Derby County and Birmingham City.

Reading are unable to start contract negotiations until the takeover is completed which makes Craig up for grabs.

The versatile youngster who can also play in central midfield, made 30 appearances for The Royals this season before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with an injury picked up towards the end of February.

Even in January, Michael Craig wasn’t short of admirers. Stevenage put in a late bid for the ex-Tottenham player towards the end of transfer window as they tried to take advantage of his contract situation.

Reading turned this bid down as they saw him playing a huge role in their push for a place in the League One play-offs.

In an interview last September, at-the-time Reading manager Ruben Selles revealed Michael Craig’s willingness to move away from his natural position to help the team:

“I had a day off and I got a message from Michael Craig and he asked to speak with me. I’m quite open with them so we had a good chat and he told me:

‘I just called you because I think you should know that in the Tottenham academy, I played as a right-back, I know the position and I think I can play there if you need me at any time.”

This willingness to learn the game and to benefit the team leaves no surprise as to why Championship clubs are after his signature.
