Cardiff City winger Ollie Tanner has sealed a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2029.
A statement from the club read; “We are pleased to confirm that winger Ollie Tanner has put pen to paper on a new deal in the Welsh capital.
“The 23-year-old joined City back in May 2022 from Lewes and has since become a key part of the squad here in South Wales.”
A Key Figure For The Bluebirds
Tanner played 89 minutes of the Bluebirds opening day 2-1 home win against Peterborough United, kickstarting their League One campaign.
He was one of ten players under the age of 24 that started the opening day fixture for Cardiff City, providing an assist for the winning goal scored by right-back Ronan Kpakio.
“I love being at the club, I’ve had a good few years here and I was really excited when the opportunity arose to stay and sign a new contract. I’m looking forward to the next four years,” Said Tanner upon signing the new deal.
“For me it’s been unbelievable so far this season. The manager and his staff have been brilliant, and my commitment shows that I want to be part of it. Everyone has bought into the style of football, and I’m excited for what’s to come next.”
Speaking on his time working with new boss Brian Barry-Murphy he stated, “We’ve had multiple conversations and he’s made it clear what my role is in the squad. One of the biggest things is that it is so clear what you need to do. Everyone understands that, and we’re all going for the same goal.
“The fans were able to see on Saturday in the way we played and pressed, that’s what we want to do throughout the season. To get the win at home in front of the fans to start the new campaign, it was brilliant.”
Ollie Tanner Standout Moments in Cardiff City Shirt
Despite only joining Cardiff in 2022 without any prior experience at professional level, Ollie Tanner has quickly adapted to life in the EFL, providing several memorable moments for the Bluebirds faithful.
Known for rising to the occasion in derby matches, his most iconic moment in a City shirt came during the 2–0 home victory over fierce rivals Swansea City in 2023.
Coming off the bench in the 70th minute to replace Ike Ugbo, Tanner made an immediate impact, finding the net just a minute later to open the scoring in what became a landmark win.
It isn’t the only time he’s produced in major moments, having scored a sensational individual strike against Bristol City in the Severnside Derby in 2024 during the Bluebirds 1-1 draw with the Robins.
Cardiff fans will be hoping for more moments of magic this campaign as they look to bounce back from relegation and return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
