Peterborough United are set for another busy summer transfer window with many incomings and outgoings. With this in mind, these five players could make for good signings.
Posh can improve in multiple areas and I will be going in order from defence to attack.
The first player that could be a good option is Posh hero and solid high end League One centre-back Josh Knight.
Knight is currently at Portsmouth but has struggled to play consistently since joining from Hannover in the summer.
The defender left Posh on a free to join Hannover in the summer of 2024 after the failed play off campaign which left Posh crippled.
Luke Williams’ side do desperately need a centre-back as Posh have struggled with injuries in that department this season.
So far in 2025/26 Posh have had ten centre-back partnerships which is arguably remarkable for any League One side. Tom Lees is also heading towards the end of his career despite being a superb League One centre-half.
It has arguably been alarming from a Posh standpoint when, without Lees, Posh have only picked up six points, demonstrating an experienced leader is needed in the back four.
Knight also has a relationship with Sam Hughes from his Leicester City days and praised Hughes when joining Peterborough United in January 2025, potentially making a move more likely.
Next up in the defensive department is Walsall right-back Connor Barrett.
The 24-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stockport County in the summer and he’s made it clear why this season. Barrett has three goals and three assists in 31 League Two games this season.
Posh have struggled for multiple seasons down that right hand side since Nathan Thomspon left the club.
Barrett would give great depth to that right hand side with his attacking prowess and his sharp defensive skills.
That attacking prowess was prominent in the 2024/25 season where he racked up eight assists in League Two.
Barett also has links with former Saddler David Okagbue which could bolster Peterborough’s defensive line.
Posh have a reputation for signing from Non-League and selling for a big profit and Danny Ormerod really fits that bill. Ormerod has 28 goals in 40 appearances for AFC Fylde this season at 19 years of age. Alongside his goal scoring prowess he also has racked up six assists.
The attacking midfielder could be the perfect understudy to New Zealand sensation Matthew Garbett.
Ormerod would also arguably fit Posh’s style of transfer business with Ephron Mason-Clarke, Jack Taylor, Ronnie Edwards and current talent Kyrell Lisbie all signed from non-league sides.
Mentioning Kyrell Lisbie brings us onto his brother and Colchester United winger Kyreece Lisbie.
The winger is currently having a superb season at Colchester scoring eleven goals and assisting four times.
Lisbie was highlight to a lot of interest from Reading on January transfer window deadline day but it never succumbed to anything.
There is a strong possibility that this move could happen for Posh due to Kyrell succeeding massively at the club and also the fact that Posh do have a strong relationship with the U’s.
The League One outfit have had moves from Colchester United in the past with Bradley Ihionvien and Frankie Kent two of these.
Posh do desperately need a right winger and Kyreece could be the on that completes the front four of Kyrell Lisbie, Matthew Garbett and Harry Leonard.
Finally, the final position that needs looking at is central midfield. Archie Collins is sadly going to depart at the end of this season and replacing him is a massive task for Posh.
One of the players, currently in League One, who could take up Archie’s role is Matthew Smith from Wigan Athletic.
The former Arsenal academy graduate and Wigan star has been on a constant presence for the Latics over the past three seasons.
The 25-year-old is entering the prime of his career and could be the one to propel Peterborough United towards the play-offs.
