Peterborough United have signed Gambian international Jacob Mendy from Wrexham FC on a season long loan.
Jacob Mendy, who has seen two promotions with Wrexham, has signed a season long loan contract with The Posh.
Mendy, the 28 year old wing back, has signed the season-long contract with Peterborough after 65 appearances and 6 goals for Wrexham.
He was also part of the squad who were promoted last season to the EFL Championship.
A Busy Deadline Day For Peterborough United
This is their third deadline day signing.
This move comes after striker Bradley Ihionvien joined League Two side Shrewbury Town on a season long loan.
Mendy has featured in The African Cup of Nations for Gambia in early 2024 and has also featured in the Carabao Cup for Wrexham against Preston North End.
Mendy plays in left back and defender positions, and can also play in both left and right midfield.
Although signing for the Posh on a season long loan, his contract runs out on 30 June 2026. There is also an option for further year after it was agreed in his last contract extension earlier this year in January.
It is thought he might be bought off Wrexham to play for Peterborough full time.
Mendy, the cousin of Carlos Mendes, who plays for League One side Bolton Wanderers, is yet to comment on his move to PE2.
It was confirmed in July off Wrexham manager, Phil Parkinson, that talks were on-going with clubs over a future potential move for Mendy on loan.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Parkinson said: “We’ve got to be fair to these players, who maybe are not getting as much playing time as they would like.
Jacob is one of these players and we’re in negotiations to sort out a move and there’s offers on the table.”
