Salford City are set to sign a striker from League One side Wycombe Wanderers, according to Not The Top 20 Podcast over on X.
Dan Udoh is reportedly the one making the move from South Buckinghamshire to Salford, despite his current sides attacking situation – with a fee in the region of £300,000 being reported by ChairboysNoise also on X.
What Will Udoh Bring To Salford?
In the grand scheme of things, getting Dan Udoh to a League Two side is a fantastic piece of business. Despite only scoring once and assisting once in League One so far this season, he’s an experienced striker with bags of quality across the frontline which he has proved during his time at Wycombe and previously Shrewsbury Town.
Should Udoh make the switch, he’ll become the second Wycombe man to move up north this summer, after they acquired Matt Butcher from Wanderers after he left Adams Park. Securing those two signatures is a real signal of intent from The Ammies and provides them plenty of quality from players in the league above.
A Big Loss For Wycombe?
It’s been a hectic deadline day for Wycombe fans so far, and this is a curveball that none of them were expecting. We reported earlier that Cauley Woodrow looks set to join Wanderers, but many thoughts this would be in addition to Udoh and the currently injured Bradley Fink. There have been some more links to attackers, which could open up the space for Udoh to leave after joining before the start of the 24/25 season.
He had to play second fiddle to main man Richard Kone for most of last season but certainly stepped up when needed – netting 8 goals and 3 assists in the league, as well as finding the back of the net once in the Carabao Cup. It’s certainly an unexpected and out of the blue move, but you’d imagine Wycombe would only let this happen if they had their own additions up their sleeves.
Is This A Good Move For Udoh?
It’s certainly a risk, giving up an almost guaranteed place in the starting XI at an established League One club is a big statement – but joining a Salford side that are aiming for promotion could be a stroke of genius, especially with Wycombe’s current struggles.
Having spent the last six seasons in League One, scoring 48 goals along the way, you’d put your money on Udoh being very effective a step below and helping guide Salford towards the third tier.
