Another gameweek of Fantasy EFL has come to an end, and for the first part of a season-long series, we will be looking back at the best performing players on the game this past gameweek and whether we would recommend them for the next gameweek with a recommendation rating, with 10 being that we highly recommend them and 0 being that we would highly recommend that you avoid them despite their successes this gameweek.
Anis Mehmeti – Sheffield United 1-4 Bristol City – 16 points
The first player on this list and the first of two Bristol City players to feature on this list, as they opened their 2025/26 season with a 4-1 hammering of Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. He got an assist for winning Scott Twine’s converted free kick (stay tuned in this article), while scoring The Robins’ third goal of the evening
The goal earned him six points, while the ‘assist’ earned him a further three points. He gained a further seven points from playing 90 minutes (two points), getting a shot on target (one point), and completing two interceptions (four points)
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
Probably not. Despite a favourable fixture at home against Charlton Athletic and no fitness concerns, I would only consider those who have a double gameweek, with the whole of League One and Two having a double gameweek, to maximise how many points you can get during the upcoming gameweek.
Recommendation rating: 4/10
Jack Whatmough – Reading 0-2 Huddersfield Town – 16 points
Huddersfield Town followed up a superb 3-0 win at home to Leyton Orient with another superb win, this time on the road away at Reading with Lee Grant’s side taking a 2-0 victory. Jack Whatmough scored the opening goal, his first for the club, as he scored from close range following a corner.
That goal earned him seven points, while he earned a further nine points from playing 90 minutes (two points), earning a clean sheet (five points) and achieving nine clearances, earning him two points.
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
Absolutely, he is the highest scoring player so far this season in Fantasy EFL, with a total of 25 points for the season so far. Huddersfield have an away game against an out-of-form Blackpool to start off gameweek 3 before having a home game against Doncaster Rovers. The Terriers are yet to concede this season either, so there is a massive opportunity to gain some points here with some Huddersfield representation in your team. Unless he gets injured between now and the weekend, there is absolutely no risk in picking him for your team.
Recommendation rating: 10/10
Bilal El Khannouss – Leicester City 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday – 17 points
Leicester City opened up their 2025/26 Championship campaign with a victory over financially struggling Sheffield Wednesday, who made their fans delighted with a superb performance against a much better side on paper despite the loss at the King Power Stadium. The foxes came from a goal down (it could have been more) to win the game 2-1, with centre backs Yannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes sealing the victory for Martí Cifuentes’ side.
Bilal El Khannouss provided both assists from set pieces, which earned him six points. He earned another eleven points from playing 90 minutes (two points), having a shot on target (one point), and completing four key passes (two points) and three interceptions (six points)
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
Despite having a favourable game away from home against Preston North End next gameweek, I would keep away and focus on League One and Two players which have a double gameweek, but he could still get some decent points from that match alone.
Recommendation rating: 4/10
Nathan Asiimwe – AFC Wimbledon 2-0 Lincoln City – 18 points
AFC Wimbledon bounced back from heartbreak at Kenilworth Road against Luton Town with a 2-0 win over 10-man Lincoln City at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. The Imps had centre back Adam Jackson sent off in the first half, as The Dons capitalised on their advantage with a goal either side of the break. Right wing back Nathan Asiimwe was the star of the show in London, as his goal put AFC Wimbledon 2-0 ahead in the final 15 minutes.
That goal earned him seven points, while he also earned two points for playing 90 minutes, two for completing nine clearances, yet another two for performing four tackles and five points for keeping a clean sheet
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
Wimbledon have two tough games in this double game-week, with a trip to Reading followed up by a home game against Cardiff City. There may be Championship players who only have one game (especially Bristol City) that I would pick over him in all honesty.
Recommendation rating: 2/10
Owen Bailey – Mansfield Town 1-2 Doncaster Rovers – 20 points
Doncaster Rovers followed up a 1-0 win at home against Exeter City with a dramatic late win against Mansfield Town at the One Call Stadium, coming from 1-0 down to win the game 2-1 courtesy of two goals from Owen Bailey, with him scoring the winner in the sixth minute of added time, finishing from close range to take all three points.
The goals contributed to 12 of his 20 points this gameweek, with another four points for two interceptions, two for two shots on target and another two for playing 90 minutes.
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
With a home fixture against out-of-sorts Wycombe Wanderers followed by a very tricky away game at Huddersfield Town, there is a possibility for some points, but maybe not as much as others. A decent sum of points for the Wycombe match followed by another couple for the Huddersfield game could be a good shout.
Recommendation rating: 6/10
Scott Twine – Sheffield United 1-4 Bristol City – 22 points
The performer of the week was Bristol City’s Scott Twine, who scored two goals, including an unbelievable free kick, in the Robins’ 4-1 thumping of Sheffield United. He also assisted Ross McCrorie’s goal that put them 2-1 ahead.
The two goals contributed to 12 of his 22 points, while the assist added another three points. Two shots on target earned him two points, an interception another two points, while he earned two points for playing 70 minutes while two key passes added on another singular point.
Would I recommend him for gameweek 3?
Bristol City have a favourable home game against Charlton Athletic next, however there is a slight injury concern around him as he was subbed off on Saturday with an injury. The Fantasy EFL app says he has a leg injury, but that is all that I know at this point of time. Also, alongside other teams having a double gameweek, there could be better choices from the lower leagues.
Recommendation rating: 3/10
