Birmingham City Loanee Rumoured To Return To Rival Club This Summer

Speculation is intensifying around Tommy Doyle’s future, with growing reports suggesting the midfielder is set to return to Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer following his loan spell at Birmingham City.

Multiple outlets have pushed the same narrative. Both Molineux News and Sports Mole describe Doyle’s return as “inevitable,” largely due to Birmingham’s faltering promotion push.

The key factor behind the rumours is contractual. Birmingham agreed a deal that would have made the 24-year-old’s move permanent if they achieved promotion to the Premier League.

However, sitting mid-table and 10 points outside the playoff places, that scenario now looks extremely unlikely. As a result, the pre-agreed £10 million clause isn’t likely, leaving Wolves as the default destination.

Despite featuring in 34 games, Tommy Doyle has only started 18 for the Championship side, with the Manchester City academy graduate struggling to cement his position in Chris Davies’ side, maintaining limited full 90-minute performances.

Despite not being the first name on the team sheet, Doyle is a fan favourite among the Blues supporters, with many Bluenoses wanting him to sign permanently at St. Andrews @ Knighthead Park this summer.

However, behind the scenes, Wolves are already being linked with plans for his reintegration. Reports suggest club staff have actively monitored Tommy Doyle in recent weeks, while manager Rob Edwards has openly acknowledged his familiarity with the midfielder, hinting he could be part of next season’s squad.

Wolves are expected to undergo a significant summer rebuild, with potential departures creating space for returning players. Doyle’s Championship experience with nearly 100 appearances makes him a practical, low-cost option.

With Wolves aiming to bounce straight back up to the Premier League, it could suit Tommy Doyle’s future Premier League ambitions perfectly, having already experienced promotion earlier in his career.

Unless Birmingham pull off a late twist, all signs point toward Doyle returning to his parent club.
