Watford have announced Edward Still as the new head coach on a 2.5-year deal running up until 2028.
The 35-year-old is the brother of Will, the former Southampton manager and was assistant manager of Anderlecht in Belgium.
Still got his first coaching job as head coach of Charleroi in Belgium in the 21/22 season.
The 35-year-old managed a 40% win success rate during his time in Belgium but was sacked in early October 2022 for picking up 16 out of a possible 42 points available.
Still continued in Belgium, where he managed Eupen from November 2022 till late April 2023.
Still managed a 11.76% win rate with only 2 wins in 17 games with 12 out of a possible 51 points.
A short stint at Kortrijk in Belgium again, with 8 games and no wins, saw him sacked and return alongside his brother Will as assistant at Lens, before another trip back to Belgium alongside Bensik Hasi at Anderlecht FC.
Speaking to Watford, Edward said, “Fans can expect our team to be aggressive, really compact defensively and attack with pace.”
“All of the focus will be on winning games as quickly as possible and getting the best out of the players.
Still has been praised for his ability to adapt to the players he has at his disposal, with the ability for his team to quickly transition with and without the ball.
The Belgian has been primarily known for playing with a 4-3-3 formation, which would suit our style of play, considering our attacking talent within the squad.
Still also plays with a strong defensive structure, often making it hard for teams to get through the defence using a low block to help keep more clean sheets and offer fewer chances to the opposition.
The Belgian’s first game in charge is away to Preston at the weekend in a 3:00 kick off, where he will be looking to get his Watford career off to a good start.
