Since arriving from Burnley last summer, it is sure to say that Aro Muric has had a pretty poor opening 12 months at Portman Road, with mistakes in matches and negativity, what is the actual problem?
In this article, we’re taking a deep dive into some of the key reasons that have been a big part of the Kosovan Goalkeeper’s disappointing first season in Suffolk…
Costly Errors
In the Premier League last season, in just the 18 matches started, Muric managed to make five crucial errors leading to goals, which is higher than any other goalkeeper in the division.
Passing out from a goal-kick against Newcastle at home is of fond memory, alongside big mistakes in terms of decision-making. The Kosovan was certainly a liability, which is a big reason why Ipswich ended up bringing in Alex Palmer as replacement.
While the Kosovan did enjoy an impressive spell in goal, a string of lacking performances and also multiple errors or crazy decisions had truly cost him his place, and that is nobody else but Muric himself to be at blame.
Poor Goalkeeping
Across the 18-game spell Muric enjoyed in the 24/25 season, Muric really wasn’t displaying the abilities that were promised after his costly transfer from Burnley in the summer.
A poor level of goals conceded, which came to a total of 33, and also some significantly low readings in save percentages show the level of performances that the 26-year-old was putting in during crucial games for Ipswich across the campaign.
With a lacking desire to consistently perform, the Kosovan shot-stopper proved to be surplus to requirements mid-season, which resulted in his replacement right at the end of the winter transfer window. Capable of better but known for his negative traits in the posts, Aro Muric certainly cost Ipswich big points with poor goalkeeping performances.
Confidence
The biggest issue that the 26-year-old clearly struggled with and quite certainly still struggles with is his confidence, and also his attitude in a big game scenario, and these two put together could be very key to the struggles Muric has experienced.
Whenever spotted in media posts or spotted pre-game, The Kosovan seems reserved and isolated, not often spending time with anyone pre-match. Attitude in games too, the goalkeeper seems quiet and afraid to be brave and make his defence know how frustrated he might be.
Communication might not be a great strength considering the native area Muric comes from, but considering his long spell in England, that would surely not be a key issue? It seems as if it is, with the goalkeeper seemingly afraid at times to communicate in games, which is of course a worry.
Being Replaced And What Could Happen Next…
The arrivals of Alex Palmer and more recently David Button, alongside the reliable Christian Walton and young Scotland Star Cieran Slicker also on the books, it seems as if one of the goalkeepers will move on.
With Slicker most likely set for a loan and Button set up to be a third choice behind Walton and Palmer, Aro Muric could well already be leaving Ipswich this summer, and with recent social media activity seeing him get rid of any sign of his Ipswich days, could the Kosovan already have a new side?
