EXCLUSIVE: Wrexham Keen On Hakeem Odoffin

In a show of ambition ahead of the 2025/26 season, Wrexham are targeting free agent Hakeem Odoffin following his departure from Rotherham United. The 27-year-old, who has been a standout performer at the Millers since arriving in 2021, is understood to be on the radar of the Welsh club, who see him as a potential addition to their upcoming Championship campaign.

Primarily a centre-back, Odoffin is renowned for his versatility — comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder and even as a central midfielder when called upon. That adaptability, combined with his leadership qualities and imposing presence on the pitch, has made him a coveted asset this summer. His exit from Rotherham came as a disappointment to the club and its supporters, who had hoped to keep hold of one of their most consistent performers.

The Rotherham Exit

Hakeem Odoffin allowed his contract to run down at the end of the 2024/25 season, making the calculated decision to explore new opportunities. And now, one of those opportunities could be at Wrexham, where the Hollywood-backed club is building steadily towards their return to the Championship. The move, should it materialise, would represent another impressive statement of intent for the club, following recent high-profile acquisitions that signal Wrexham’s growing pull in the English football pyramid.

In May, Rotherham confirmed Odoffin’s departure, despite making what they described as a “new, improved contract offer” to retain his services. First team coach Matt Hamshaw paid tribute to the defender in his farewell statement:

“We’re really disappointed that Haks sees his future away from Rotherham United, but we also understand it for all the reasons he has detailed in the many discussions we have had about his future.

“With the Chairman’s backing and his own desire to try and retain the player’s services, we can rest assured that we tabled an offer and negotiated to a point which we felt as a football club represented how highly we think of Haks. A player of his talents will understandably have enticing offers elsewhere and his performances have been so good for a long time now that we absolutely don’t begrudge him whichever opportunity he decides to pursue.

“He has been first class for this football club both as a player and an ambassador in the community and I am 100% confident that you won’t find anybody who has encountered him throughout the last four years that says otherwise.”

Wrexham’s interest in Odoffin underscores the club’s strategy of blending experience with versatility, and his arrival — if it comes to fruition — could provide a vital boost to Phil Parkinson’s squad depth. Odoffin’s leadership, experience in the Championship and League One, and consistency on the pitch would no doubt strengthen Wrexham’s defensive structure.

While no agreement has been finalised and the situation remains fluid, Wrexham are believed to be monitoring developments closely. Should they make a concrete move, Odoffin would be one of the most intriguing free agents available this summer — and a potential key figure in Wrexham’s next chapter.
