Antoine Semenyo has been on a varied journey, with him going from Newport County all the way to Manchester City now.

In an era obsessed with academy prodigies, Antoine Semenyo represents a different, increasingly rare footballing pathway.

His rise to the Premier League was not forged in headlines, but in the unforgiving grounds of the English Football League!

In recent days, it has come to light that Manchester City have come to agreements with Bournemouth for the signing of Antoine Semenyo, just seven days into the transfer window.

Semenyo joined Bristol City as a teenager after early setbacks into his youth career.

He arrived with raw athleticism but still rough around the edges.

Semenyo came to Bristol City with clear physical tools, yet his game was still lacking the consistency required at senior level.

Rather than hinder Semenyo’s growth, Bristol City leaned into the EFL’s loan system to improve and nurture his development.

Semenyo’s defining chapter came at Newport County, where League Two football has incredibly physical and demanded more than just pure potential.

Here, Semenyo learned the realities of senior football, relentless physical duels, and tactical discipline.

His goals and performance whilst on loan widened a lot of eyes to the potential and investments to be made into the youth of the EFL.

Back in the Championship, once clubs had realised his potential, Semenyo slowly turned into a genuine attacking weapon.

He was used across the front line, and brought intensity both in and out of possession. The EFL was where he learnt how to properly affect games, even when chances are limited – as he did last night to get the 94th minute winner against Tottenham.

In 2022, Semenyo joined Bournemouth for a fee of around £7,000,000.

By this time, he was already tactically mature, physically conditioned and mentally resilient to any challenges that the Premier League may bring.

So far in his Premier League stint, Semenyo has achieved 30 goals for the cherries!

Semenyo is supposed to be announced as a Manchester City player tomorrow, or Friday according to Fabrizio Romano on X.
