After announcing he is leaving the club in the summer, Billy Sharp is set to make his final few appearances for Doncaster Rovers, starting with his final home game vs Stevenage this Saturday.
The 40-year-old has scored 67 goals for Rovers across four spells and will make his 197th appearance against promotion chasing Stevenage.
This article will look back at some of his best moments in the Red and White of Doncaster Rovers in his fourth spell.
After leaving Hull City at the end of the 2023/24 season without scoring a goal, the only club he failed to score for, Sharp rejoined the South Yorkshire side on an initial one year deal.
On the opening day, Sharp was named on the bench vs Accrington Stanley, and after coming on in the 75th minute to mark his return, the veteran netted the fourth goal of the game to cap a 4-1 win on the opening day of the 2024/25 season.
In typical Billy Sharp fashion, it was a poachers effort inside the six-yard box that he scored, showing he still had the strikers instinct despite questions over his age.
After a decade away, it was as though he had never left.
During the 2024/25 season, Sharp netted nine goals and one assist as he helped Doncaster Rovers win the League Two title.
The most pivotal of those nine goals came on the penultimate day of the season, when Sharp scored the second goal in an eventual 2-1 win vs Bradford, his ninth goal against the West Yorkshire side.
After The Bantams had a penalty saved by Teddy Sharman-Lowe towards the end of the game to make it 1-1, Sharp raced through on goal from the following goal kick after Ethan Ennis’ flick, and slotted Rovers into a 2-0 lead, to seal promotion to the third tier for the first time since 2022, sparking jubilant scenes at the Eco-Power stadium.
Sharp extended his spell with Doncaster into the 2025/26 season, after extending his contract for another year.
With heightened competition in the forward line and making the step back up to League 1, Sharp’s role was mainly as a substitute for the majority of the season, but he still stamped his mark on one competition.
Sharp started Doncaster’s Vertu Trophy games vs Chesterfield in the round of 32 and netted a hat-trick as well as an assist in a 5-1 win.
He went on to score a brace in the Round of 16 against Fleetwood in a 3-1 win, before scoring a penalty in Doncaster’s 1-1 draw with Huddersfield, which they won in a shootout win.
Sharp’s goalscoring wouldn’t continue as Rovers missed out on Wembley as they lost 0-1 to Stockport in the semi-final.
However, he finished the competition averaging a goal every 58 minutes and earned the top scorer award.
Whilst Rovers fans won’t get to see Billy Sharp wear the kit beyond this season, his legacy will be remembered for years to come for Doncaster supporters.
Representing Rovers in the Championship, League One and Two, Sharp is a symbol of professionalism as well as a legendary goalscorer, whose name will never leave the Eco-Power Stadium.
