Birmingham City To Host Spanish Giants Barcelona

Birmingham City will host Spanish giants Barcelona as a part of the LaLiga champions’ pre-season schedule this summer according to the BBC.

Hansi Flick’s side, who look set for a second successive Spanish top flight title, will be based at St George’s Park for two weeks with the team expected to arrive in England on 27th July.

It remains to be seen when the exact date of the fixture will be although it is likely that it will take place before the Championship season gets underway in August.

Birmingham finished tenth in the English second tier last season in their first campaign in the division since they broke the League One points record to be automatically promoted as champions.

Signing players such as August Priske during the January transfer window, it is certain that the Blues will recruit further in the summer window in the aim of pushing further up the table next season.

Playing Barcelona at St Andrews @ Knighthead Park could provide City fans with the opportunity to watch some of their new signings in action ahead of the new season.

Flick’s side may also debut a series of new signings although familiar faces such as Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski, and Gavi may also be spotted at the stadium for the game although the World Cup could limit the chances of this occuring.

The fixture is expected to be one of three fixtures that Barcelona play this summer with one taking place in the Kenyan capital Nairobi whilst another will take place in Morocco before the season gets underway.

The unexpected nature of this fixture may take some Birmingham fans by surprise but may also create an exciting prospect and event.

Tickets for the fixture have not yet gone on sale although further announcements about the game may come in the coming weeks as the two clubs finalise all the details.
