Bristol Rovers Officially Announce Deadline Day Striker Signing

Bristol Rovers announced the signing as they strengthen their squad and look to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers have announced Joe Quigley from Oldham Athletic for an undisclosed fee on their official website.

He signed a two year contract with the Gas and with the striker wearing the number 27 shirt.

He has over 300 appearances in the EFL giving the Pirates some much needed experience to the side with an average age of 25.

Bristol Rovers have needed a big striker for their attack with Fabrizio Cavegn being absent in many games with his lack of height.

Who Is Joe Quigley?

Quigley joined Bournemouth’s academy for his first club joining at the age of 11. He initially went on loan to Torquay, Woking and Wrexham netting eight goals across his loan spells.

He got his first experience in the EFL at Gillingham, before having more loans spells in the national league and briefly settling at Bromley.

Quigley later moved on to Dagenham and Redbridge. He scored five goals while in London. A transfer to Yeovil at the end of the season moved him on again before COVID.

It was at Yeovil where the striker managed to net some goals. He scored 20 goals in his 61 appearances at the Glovers. He impressed during his time at Huish park spending two years there and moving the Chesterfield in 2022.

The striker helped the Spireites regain their English Football League status. Quigley scored double figures in the National League.

Steve Evans’ Opinions

It’s clear Quigley is not being brought in for his goalscoring ability with a significant lack of goals at the majority of clubs he has played for but his 6ft 4 stature will surely come in handy for the Gas.

Evans said: “The lad has never been known as a goal scorer, but has an excellent reputation as a goal creator, and a fierce competitor.

“I can say out centre-backs have never had an easy afternoon when he’s been on the opposition side.”

Bristol Rovers’ next game is Walsall on Tuesday night. Steve Evans has a chance to win two games in a row at Rovers since September which started off with a win at Newport.
