Cardiff City’s Defensive Headache

Cardiff City boss Brian Barry-Murphy will head into Saturday’s big clash against Bolton Wanderers with a selection headache in defence.

The Bluebirds are on the brink of joining Lincoln City in the Championship next season and a win over fourth placed Bolton Wanderers could put Cardiff just one win away depending on other results.

However with a number of centre backs out or doubtful Cardiff’s task has been made a little bit harder.

Gabriel Osho will be serving his third and final game of his suspension after being sent off during Cardiff’s 2-0 loss to Wycombe Wanderers last month.

League One young player of the year nominee Dylan Lawlor picked up a knock in Wales’ 1-1 friendly draw with Northern Ireland last week.

The 20-year-old missed Cardiff’s 1-1 draw at Peterborough United on Easter Monday.

Calum Chambers is also another doubt after being forced off at the Weston Homes Stadium on Monday.

Chambers was replaced by Ronan Kpakio at half time.

Barry-Murphy did his pre match press duties on Wednesday afternoon and issued updates on Lawlor and Chambers.

“Calum has had a scan. He is seeing a specialist today (yesterday) so we should know more about that in the next 24 hours but he couldn’t continue playing Monday.”

On Lawlor Barry-Murphy said: “We will take it day by day to see if he’s ready for the weekend.”

How Could Cardiff City Lineup On Saturday?

If both Chambers and Lawlor are out Will Fish is the only recognised centre back available.

Perry Ng has played in the heart of defence for Cardiff before so I would expect him to step in and partner Fish if needed.

In terms of the right back position Kpakio will more than likely come in and replace Ng.

Kpakio enjoyed a fine start to the campaign but has failed to reach those levels in recent weeks.

A start against Bolton however will give him the perfect opportunity to prove any doubters of him wrong.

Cardiff head to Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night and will be hopeful of having at least one of the two injured players back.

Gabriel Osho will also be available for selection.
