Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony is known for his transparency and having his heart in the right place. On Wednesday evening, he showcased his gratitude for his Manager Luke Williams with an image posted on his X and Instagram.
MacAnthony then engaged with Posh fans relaying some notable information about what could be happening in the summer.
One of the most notable pieces from MacAnthony’s fan engagement was discussing the future of New Zealand international Matthew Garbett.
He disclosed that the club had turned down a £1.7 Million pound bid from a fellow league one side in January. He also stated the club are targeting a number 10 to compete with Ukrainian starlet Patryk Sykut if the club were to sell Garbett.
The Kiwi will most likely be playing at the World Cup this summer in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
Something Posh fans have been holding onto is the hope of Archie Collins signing a new deal. Sadly, Darragh confirmed he will be departing at the end of the season. Archie has encapsulated the Posh fanbase since joining from Exeter in the summer of 2023.
MacAnthony went on to say Posh will be targeting a replacement for Collins as one of the club key summer targets. Collins has been crucial to Posh’s success this season and his tenure at the club as a whole.
One thing overlooked from this fan engagement is the faith that the chairman has in Peterborough United’s academy. He displayed immense confidence in young Lucca Mendonca, Patryk Sykut and star talent Bolu Shofowoke.
MacAnthony’s faith in the academy should not be overlooked as they have provided a major impact when called upon this season. Bolu Shofowoke showed his dynamism and pure ability against promotion chasers Cardiff City on Easter Monday.
Lucca Mendonca put in a man of the match display against Stevenage after being called upon to replace the ill Tom Lees. Patryk Sykut also had an outstanding starting debut scoring versus Exeter City and has had many bright cameos.
The final part of MacAnthony’s Q/A was revealing some summer transfer targets. He revealed that Posh have signed a left-back to compete with the talented Harley Mills.
He also said that Posh would be looking at a right winger suggesting time to impress for Cian Hayes and Declan Frith is running out. The final thing he stated was the signing of a number 10 if Posh were to sell Garbett for big money.
However, this would not be an experienced number 10. It would be a young gem to compete with young talent Patryk Sykut.
