Shaq Forde scored a brace against Chesterfield, hauling Bristol Rovers back into the game and then giving them the lead.
It was only the forward’s second league game at home where he has scored after Lincoln City last season. Shaq Forde has been so impressive since Steve Evans came in.
He has four goal involvements this week contributing to Rovers upturn in form.
His goals were deserved for the effort he has put shown in the blue and white quarters recently. Although it’s a shame it couldn’t have contributed for a win.
Another stand out performance was Brad Young.
The goalkeeper was playing his fifth game in a row and he had kept two clean sheets and only conceded two goals against Salford and MK Dons.
Young made some brilliant saves against Chesterfield keeping the Gas in the game in the first 10 minutes.
Although his best game in the 68th minute when he made himself big against Liam Mandeville’s free header to save at point blank range.
After some very solid defensive displays in recent weeks. Bristol Rovers defence let down their attack against the Spireites.
In the first 15 minutes, Rover’s gave Chesterfield four chances with Brad Young being forced into some big saves.
Steve Evans was critical of his defence with the winner being scored by James Berry who was left open at the back post.
The two first goals were also very avoidable with Chesterfield capitalising on poor defensive positions at the back.
Joe Quigley made his first appearance for Bristol Rovers coming on in the 55th minute.
He made an instant impact setting up Forde for his second of the game three minutes later. In his 35 minutes on the pitch, he won two of of his three aerial duels and had a few chances to score although couldn’t hit the target.
Cavegn has been begging for a big striker to play off and Quigley might be the answer to his question. He constantly caused the Paul Cook’s defence problems as well as nearly set up Mola for a equaliser deep into stoppage time.
Bristol Rovers sit 19th in the table six points above the relegation zone. Harrogate got a shock result against Cambridge, Rovers next opponent, ruining their six game winning run.
That result allowed them to level points with Newport. Although the Sulphurites remain bottom by -3 goal difference. With Shrewsbury, Barrow and Crawley all loosing Bristol Rovers kept their place in the table.
A win away at Cambridge next week could take Rovers up to 18th if Cheltenham loose to Barnet. Bristol Rovers travel to Cambridgeshire next week, playing the U’s for the fourth time this season.
Rovers won both league and EFL Trophy fixtures with Cambridge winning in the EFL Cup.
