Cardiff City can secure a return to the Championship this week and join Lincoln City in clinching automatic promotion from League One.
The Imps secured their promotion on Easter Monday with a 2-0 win away at Reading and are currently on a 25 match unbeaten run and Cardiff could just be a few days away from joining them.
Cardiff were relegated from the Championship last season after finishing in 24th but now have their eyes set on an immediate return.
It was a dismal campaign for the Welsh club winning just nine of their 46 league matches, the Bluebirds went through three managers on their way to relegation last season.
Erol Bulut, Omer Riza and Aaron Ramsey all managed the club but none of them were able to put any results together to avoid the drop.
Brian Barry-Murphy was appointed in the summer and since his appointment the club haven’t looked back.
Despite a dip in form over the past week, saturday’s 2-0 win at home to Bolton Wanderers has put Cardiff within touching distance of second tier football again.
Cardiff will need to win away at Huddersfield Town on Tuesday night.
A win in West Yorkshire will all but secure a Championship return but the promotion will be made official on Wednesday night if Stockport County fail to win away at AFC Wimbledon.
Stockport head to London on Wednesday on the back of losing the Vertu Trophy final on Sunday after falling to a 3-1 defeat against Luton Town at Wembley.
Dave Challinor’s side currently sit 14 points behind Cardiff with six to play however it would take an extraordinary set of results in the final weeks for them to overtake the Bluebirds.
If Stockport do win at Plough Lane then Cardiff will be able to confirm promotion at Reading on Saturday with a win.
Cardiff know wins at both the Accu Stadium and the Select Car Leasing Stadium will secure promotion regardless of what Stockport do in their remaining games.
