Huddersfield Town are set to complete their first signing of the January window, as they sign a player from League One.

Cardiff City goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has completed a permanent move to promotion rivals Huddersfield Town, as reported on the official Huddersfield Town website.

Announcing the news on their website, Town stated: “Goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has today joined Huddersfield Town in a permanent transfer from fellow Sky Bet League One side Cardiff City, with the terms of the deal to remain undisclosed.”

Having been a prominent figure in Cardiff City’s previous 3 Championship seasons, Alnwick found himself at the periphery of the League One club this term, having yet to play a single minute this campaign.

Back in October, Bluebirds boss Brian Barry Murphy announced that the keeper was taking time away due to personal reasons, and had only rejoined the training squad over the Christmas period.

With Nathan Trott emerging as the clear favourite in the number one shirt and Matt Turner being entrusted to deputise, the opportunity for Alnwick to earn any valuable minutes at Cardiff City appears to have disappeared.

The 32-year-old is understood to want a move closer to home, with lots of interest coming from League One and Two clubs, with Huddersfield appearing to be the famous, with rumours swirling around the future of Owen Goodman.

“Jak’s been training with us and he’s got quite a lot of interest as well,” Barry-Murphy said.

“We’re looking to support him and make sure he does what he feels is best for him and his family.”

Jak Alnwick played 64 times for Cardiff, and will leave the club as a solid keeper.

Furthermore, during this spell, Alnwick was able to develop professionally and was able to prove himself.

Now, supporters could also look towards the goalkeeper to see if he comments on the move or what his spell at Cardiff has meant for him.

But, with the players currently undergoing a busy spell with transfers, games, and other duties, fans may have to wait to see what the spell fully meant to the departing Cardiff goalkeeper.
